Of course it's I who starts this thread
Mixed drinks are girly, yes. That doesn't make them bad ab initio, though. Just more complicated. Like girls!

Only girly drinks are girly, you can't ascertain girliness simply by asking whether or not a drink is mixed.
Do you have a problem with girly?
I actually had a "low alcohol beer" the other day which was really nice. Went to the Trafford Centre and I was driving, the beer was 0.5% alcohol (the same as orange juice and not much different to vinegar apparently). Was really nice, tasted the same as beer, just didn't get me intoxicated. Good for when driving :)
Cocktails are not girly. I said that somewhere else.
Why bother with a low alcohol beer? 1) They are usually macrobrews, so they suck, and 2) they are still full of calories. I'd find eating a couple of pieces of good grainy bread more enjoyable. If Sierra Nevada, Pyramid or Red Hook (or any of the good local brewmasters) made one, I'd consider it. But the mainstream ones, who are generally the only ones to make low alcohol? No thanks. Might as well change your name to Chubby McChubberson.
A good whiskey and a Guiness. Not necessarily in that order.
Or one of the other 3,000 beers in Germany :)
Moved from the Photo thread:
I don't know, drinks like Smirnoff Ice are more considered to be for under 20ies than girls. I would say that cocktails like 'Cosmopolitan' are considered to be for women here. But it is very usual for man to drink Gin Tonic, Cuba Libre, Mai Tai, Margaritas ect, here.
I'd consider a Cosmo a girly drink, but not a Margarita.
No idea what a Mai Tai is.

I'm being overly simplistic here, but if its a drink that usually comes with little toys (or food) sticking out of it, its "girly"
The site's been taken down now (which apparently Smirnoff had a hand in) but there's a phenomenon in America called Bros Icing Bros. Basically the way it works is if you're hanging out with friends/at a party/whatever, if someone hands you a Smirnoff Ice you have to get down on one knee and drink the whole thing (embarrassing because it's known as one of the girliest drinks here). However, if you have a Smirnoff when someone ices you, they have to drink both. Fun, huh? Sad that I'm posturing as informed and mature because I know this? My brother and his best friend got iced by his girlfriend the other night, he was none too happy about it, but he drank it anyway.

The definition of girly drink is probably very, very broad. I'd say anything that looks better (or is supposed to in theory) than it tastes is girly. Although lemon drowned in lab grade ethanol looks fairly ok, but is fucking revolting - and I wouldn't call that one "girly". Perhaps another factor should be voltage. Anything below 10%, combined with the look/taste factor, perhaps?
Over here, anything labeled as "cider" (extremely sugary and equally synthetic-tasting crap, 5 volts or so) and anything too sweet to be certain whether it is alcoholic or not, is considered girly.
I was sooo wasted last night
Well okay, not that wasted
But pretty okay
Not as wasted as the girl friend, though
I don't think it's okay to romp around town 'til 5 in the morning and then come in slurring about sex. When I have meetings at 9 am and 4 pm today. Urghh
On my recent sojourn into the wild west, I averaged 18 drinks per day - 10 per day of James Squire's Original Amber Ale (5%) and 8 per day of Jack Daniels & Soda Water.
After 10 icy cold beers on a warm afternoon, the sun sets and the night air bites and out comes the bottle of Jack's and suddenly all is warm again.:yum:
We also knocked off a couple of bottles of home made Black Sambuca swigged from the bottle late at night as a sort of night-cap - not sure who made the sambuca, I'm not usually one to drink the stuff but it tasted ok and warmed the belly so it got guzzled.
Thanks largely to the good food (and regularity of our intake of good food) we were all healthy and fit each morning, so after a good hearty breakfast we were ready to tackle the next leg of our journey.
Ok, after about a 5th of BV, mixed with coke, and about 1/2 of a 5th of Carolan's...would someone care to explain why a "mixed" drink is "girly"?
Natty Light all day, everyday...
Long Island Ice Tea....yummmmmmmmm
Anyone tried this new craze with Elderflower Liquor mixed with champagne/prosecco/white wine?
