I hear it's a Dreadnaughtism (albeit slightly butchered). Discuss/deconstruct/analyse freely if you can :noob:
Please describe, in detail, the nordic model you want to discuss.
If we're going by that, then I think it's too broad to effectively discuss with respect to the OP's topic. There are too many different aspects involved.
I think we need to narrow it down further, otherwise we're likely to just wind up talking past each other, with each of us thinking of a different aspect of the 'Nordic Model' as we talk.Quote:
The Nordic Model however is not a single model with specific components or rules; each of the Nordic countries has its own economic and social models, sometimes with large differences from its neighbours.
I like where this thread is going.
As much as I'd like to post more images of number Six;
What I think Minx is after here is justification for Dreadnaught's blithe dismissal of the Nordic nations working despite not following the Austerity Zombies to the tee. Dread has often evoked racist sentiments that the Nordic nations are "special" because we're so lily-white. So we were wondering whether that holds up to scrutiny.
Oh, this is just an attack Dread thread? My bad, sorry for intruding. You might have some difficulties here though, as your target is currently on vacation (it's Thanksgiving week here in the States).
I actually think he may have had a point, in that I think racial homogeneity may eg. have made it easier to swallow/sell the Nordic Model (specifically its "socialist" aspects) to the population--and that increasing racial heterogeneity may therefore be making it more difficult now. While Dread isn't here atm I was hoping others would be able to fairly represent his position, because I don't think he conjured it out of nothing. Iirc Loki has made similar assertions, but we've never had the time to go really go into that discussion.
I am of course dreading the moment we decide that Dread is right, because of what that might mean for me and my kind :p
There are parts that I think work better/more easily because of cultural homogeneity, but there are other parts as described on wikipedia that would have worked regardless, and still other parts that I think are more reliant on the specific features of the culture present, rather than the cultures all being the same. I don't think it's racially related, except insofar as culture is related to race.
In my eagerness to seem funny, I have given you the wrong idea. There isn't necessarily anything wrong with what Dread (or whomever to this subscribes) thinks, and the real policy conclusions that follow from this may be necessary yet not very humanitarian. Given their distasteful nature, it seems prudent to investigate whether there is something there to warrant further action. The fact that I dislike Dread's incessant fellatio of the Austerity Zombies bears little relevance to Minx's original question, and should not be used as a cudgel to dismiss this entire line of inquiry.
Part of the Nordic Model having been successful is income homogeneity or low income equality.
If you look at it from a "common culture" perspective (as opposed to racial homogeneity, which is not always the same thing), it's clearly been shown to be correct throughout history. If people work and live in the same area and they don't share a common culture, a number of problems develop, from communication difficulties to perceived (and/or real) political pandering, to genocide.
On rare occasions, you are a treasure, Loki!
Every study has errors. Of course if they are of disastrous magnitude...
Well, the result seems to be the same...
Where did this supposed unity of goals come from and how on earth did it survive?
The way politics is lead might also be the issue / solution. In the US you have a lot of rich individuals that try to over-voice each other when running for presidency. In the Nordoc country we have several parties which opinion is made by all the representatives, and fronted throuhh a spokesman, a leader. Each party, with their conflicting ideas, are free to bring up topixs at heart to be televised ad publicly debated upon. The people has a constant dialogue and hence awareness of the broad politics of these parties. That means that they firstly do not need a lot of money to grab the media's attention, as its quite evenly spread as a natural part of the system.
We know our politicians through years of consistency and coverage, rather than relying on these rich men who try to convince the people with elated positivity and slogabs in an election process where conservatism versus liberalism almost makes it appear like an entertainer's gameshow... since that it what it seems to me. A one man show where the purpose is not necessarily to promote their politics, but to gain the trust of the people to do whatever they want for 4 years merely being a good speaker. Obama being a fine example.
Sorry for spelling, typing on a phone.
So? It's not possible to count the number of ethnic wars between two groups of people that outsiders can't tell the difference between. Likewise, communism and fascism are about as similar as you can get without being the same thing.
And since everyone else is too polite to bring it up, what were the stated motivations for that Norwegian who decided to shoot up as many future leftie politicians as he could? Something about keeping Norway for theAryansethnically Norwegian peoples, wasn't it?
But yeah, sure, probably got nothing to with ethnic or cultural homogeneity... :bored:
USA is a melting pot.
Canada is a vertical mosaic.
Scandinavian countries are soup?
Our teacher oftentimes mentions Scandinavian countries during his sociology lectures because they are so fuckin' cool. Aside from the lack of racial minorities which can excessive institutional completeness, most "deviant" behavior isn't considered deviant there anyways. It's been medicalized, so the burden of curing the sick falls on the state and isn't a vice.
Don't quote me on that, but don't they boast one of the lowest gini coefficient out there?
I'll wager Japan has a smaller one...
How surprised, on a scale from 0 to just pooped your pants, would you be if I told you there's a Wikipedia article for "List of nations by Gini index"?
