Sexism in the workplace

Over the past few years I have become increasingly aware of how prevalent a certain disgusting kind of sexism is in Swedish workplaces. I'm not even being overly sensitive and PC--this is the real deal, the kind of sexism and systematic mistreatment of women that should make most people's skin crawl. It's giving me a toothache, tbh. I can't remember the last time something work-related made me feel this uneasy--bad, even. And I can't help but shudder when I think that Sweden's supposed to hold a leading position, globally, in matters of gender equality.

Just wanted to vent because I feel esp. uneasy about it today; feel free to share your thoughts if you like.

I've never seen any, personally. Mind giving examples of what you're talking about?

Is this, like, workplace harassment or is it systematic discrimination from management?

I don't have any female colleagues that work close to me, so I haven't seen any. When I worked in a bar, most sexism came from.customers and got the girls bigger tips.

I was quite curious myself.

I've seen some sexism at my workplaces, but they have usually been in good spirit against younger fresh colleagues. It's more teasing than being dominant or demeaning.

County does it slightly. They are known to move people around in the branch libraries if the patrons start to get unrulely. Move out one of the woman and move in a dude, even if that dude is a craven. Next week we are also working the phones till midnight, in a not so great neighborhood, and not a single woman was scheduled for that shift, even though they are a majority in this department.

Seen banter, but not that. Actually had only one incident (in over 7 years) with someone taking banter too far, got a few complaints and he got fired for it. But that was just one guy being a bit sick, not routine harrassment.

What kinds of stuff are you seeing?

A relative of mine recently got a guy fired for sexual harassment. But it was some of the most over-the-top you could imagine without him actually hitting on women or even touching them. Just saying weird, misogynistic things.

Not seen any in my years in the workplace.

My other half has seen a ton it though, as she works in hospitality where it would seem to be much more prevalent.

Currently she works as HR Manager in one of London's largest hotels. She has just undertaken a series of investigations, disciplinaries, and the eventual sacking of an executive head chef. Seems he has a history of behaviour toward women ranging from inappropriate to criminal. He has hired only attractive, young Eastern European women in his kitchen. He apparently has a habit of walking up behind them and unsnapping their bras through their uniforms. In the case he has just been sacked for, he locked a girl from his kitchen into an office, forced himself upon her and tried to undress her.

Though this is the worst example she has encountered, such things are far from rare in hospitality, where workers are often new immigrants with a poor grasp of English and an even poorer grasp of what behaviour is expected in a UK workplace.

I think getting some female posts is ideal to getting a more clear picture. We just see women from time to time, they're women 24/7 (presumably).
