Companies fire people and outsource, with a tremendous social cost of unemployment.
Why can't workers outsource? How is that if a worker does it, it is cheating, but if a company does it, it is business?

It's the employer's job. Not the employee's.
I don't see any reason why a worker shouldn't be able to outsource. . . provided he informs people and it's allowed in the terms of the contract. What this guy did is fraud.Quote:

That begs the question of why the company wouldn't just give the contract to a Chinese firm, instead of working through a Costa Rican middle man. :noob:
A reasonable question, but these kind of sub-sub-sub contracts are not that uncommon.
This is awesome. Especially because he had to show up in an office every day. He was able to review code made by other people for several different jobs and navigate office politics. Besides the breach of contract/security and ethical issues behind it, well done to this man. :up:
Depends upon the contract. Off the top of my head if they'd hired him there'd probably be a confidentiality clause in the contract and thus outsourcing the work would once again be fraudulant and a breach of contract.Quote:

The global Banks and Insurance firms I've worked for fr'instance are very, very protective, not only of the data they create and hold, but also the code that is written by their staff, systems architecture information, business concept models, business process/procedure documents, and policy documents.Quote:

Back in the days when I used to write code for the Bank, we had a comment template which we had to copy to the top of every code segment we wrote, which copyrighted that code to them. The same went for the software development which the Bank outsourced to India (and increasingly, Brazil) - their 3rd party contracts were explicit in terms of confidentiality, and all that code was copyrighted in the same way.
This man would be marched straight out the door for blatant breach of contract.
