Steam Winter Events
Last night the Steam Auction started. Allowing you to craft useless inventory items like cards, emoticons, and backgrounds into useless gems. You were supposed to use those gems to bid on games. Something went horribly, horribly wrong and bidding got out of control. If you "value" the gems at 3 cents per 1000 the game bids were still hitting several hundred dollars each. Turns out there was a duping bug. So as of right now the auction is suspended with almost no evidence of it happening (all inventory gems are gone too).
But the good news is that the winter sale starts on the 18th, and there does appear to be an event to go along with that as well

Not interested in cards or any of that nonsense, but bring on the sale. Though I think I've bought everything I want already.

The Gems and auction are back online. They don't appear to be marketable anymore. You can also turn gems into booster packs.

Thanks for the heads up on this, OG. Managed to pick up four games essentially for free in this, between the items I scrapped and buying gems when they were cheap and selling them back once the auction started. Then did the math and also bought enough gem packs back to get Shroud of the Avatar at less than half price.
