I have that too, which is how I got home after being woken up again :p (Not always manage the undress part TBH). And in my defense, it was 8:30 AM.. And I'd been there since 9:30 PM, and Tito & Tarantula played earlier :D It's just that I felt I was too drunk to walk home and figured I'd be better off sobering up a bit before attempting that, which would probably ave gone better if I had refused drinks offered to me :p


First time in a long time I hooked up with a cute girl I actually want to see again, but she's leaving the country sunday :down:

So, I've just taken over this chemistry class due to the original teacher leaving (not voluntarily, but she's having a baby in 3 weeks).

As kind of a parting gift, she gave me a homework task the pupils had done which I was to correct. I just got around to doing that. The homework was the result of us visiting a science show which only provided seats for 10 pupils - the other 10 had to stay at school. This meant that the pupils at school were tasked with researching the topic of the show and were also to write a short paper.

Let me put it this way: If half of them had simply used Word and the Copy&Paste function it would have saved them a lot of time. Because I'm not giving any points for Copy&Paste in handwritten form either.

One girl tried to change some words in order to camouflage the plagiarism. Went horribly wrong because she changed the meaning completely. For instance, out of a "this solar cell's function is analoguous to the photosynthesis in plants" she made "this solar cell depends on the photosynthesis in plants".

It was the Graetzel cell, by the way. No photosynthesis anywhere.

I suspect this is going to get a lot nastier before its cleared up

Replace all upholstered/cushioned chairs with hardwood seats (or inflated plastic exercise balls ;)). And get rid of any carpet flooring or acoustical wall tiles.

yeah, we're not giving the patrons giant rubber balls to sit on.

it seems I'm only scratching the surface of the problem too. Found 4 more infected chairs, several live bugs and way to many exoskeletons. Got a feeling we're going to end up having to melt this place with heat treatment.

Hmmh. What other methods for sterilizing delicate matter are out there... Ultraviolet would probably age the pages too fast. Maybe x- or gamma-rays? Hrmh, that would result in people being scared of the yellow "Radioactive" signs.

Somebody else at work quit last week and I've had their responsibilities added to my own (they were only part time). Its a field I'm not fully used to using software I'm unfamiliar with and plenty of number crunching which I'm happy to deal with. Been plodding along catching up what they were supposed to have already done (they were very behind) working towards a deadline and just been doing some more and had a gut feeling that the numbers were wrong. Went through the paperwork and discovered that the print off I was working on that already half been entered was in part a duplicate of already completed numbers. She was supposed to print off a new set of reports ending at the end of the last set for them to be filed continuously and brought upto date and instead this set overlaps a large portion of the previous set.

I was already on a deadline but now I've now got to undo much of what I've been doing, much of what she's done, on still unfamiliar software and all simply because the wrong start date was selected and printed off. None of the numbers have matched up for a long time on what they should be and months of reports are overdue so I had to catch it all back up but now I have no idea as to whether or not this is the only incidence of this mistake or not. I'm worried now about what else has been screwed up.

This seems like a pretty good reason to hire someone else on a temporary but full-time contract to fix the mess.

My new office at work is quite chilly so I've brought in a powerful spare electric heater I had at home (got given it by our gas company when our boiler was broken last year and it'd take a few days to get the parts for repairs). Put that on when I got in tonight and later while distracted moved my Laptop to one side onto a box on the floor to clear some space on my desk ... long story short, without thinking put the edge of the laptop directly over the heater. By the time I realised what I'd done the base and edging of the Laptop has clearly melted and warped. No idea if anything internally is damaged but I'd be surprised if not. :(

Just got an email from our social worker. Our adoption paperwork is held up again. They had questions that WERE NOT ON THE FORMS. So I had to supply that info, and the social worker will having me sign that information and send back up to Augusta...FFS.

Touch wood it seems to be working fine. Superficially damaged but its on and browsing the web (typing this on it) at least. Will find out if anything else got destroyed later no doubt.

Any idea of some scans I should run to check for damage?

I recently had to redo photos for my ID card because on the ones I had my head was slightly too small.

Because enlarging a photo is obviously wizardry.

Pictures for passports.. I had mine taken specifically for that, perfectly the right size, and on the resulting passport it's cropped anyway so my hair doesn't fit. Why require a size if you're not going to use it anyway?

Well, it could also be that a different department wants them and that the departments don't talk to each other.

During my time as a teacher-in-training, I had to give them my curriculum vitae on 5 different occasions. The first one being identical with the last one, mind (I'm not quite sure what they expected to change during a time period of 6 months - what with us being employed by the state the whole time and also being disallowed from having a side job (not that we'd have had time for that!)).

Same dept. the first was for the foster care system, the 2nd for the state to adopt. The 3rd is for the state...to adopt .

Same. Media Player was rubbish a decade ago but works smooth enough now that never get around to downloading anything different.

I considered making a thread on the 50th anniversary of JKF's assassination. But then, I realized not many forum members were alive at the time, and could only give a post-hoc opinion.

Double whammy, I suppose.

Anyway, my groove was totally messed up today. I remembered being in school, and my teacher crying, and the loud-speaker announcing the assassination of our President, and that school would be dismissed early. I remember my mother trying to hide her tears, and my father coming home from work early, with a graven face.

They didn't let us watch the black-and-white TV machine for evening news. Saturday cartoons were pre-empted. But they did allow us to watch the funeral procession. I remember the flag-draped casket being carried on big wheels, in a large cart. I remember horses, bagpipes, lots of uniforms, and crowds of silence. Hordes of adults being quietly solemn, lined along the streets, many rows deep, dabbing tears with handkerchiefs.

I was 5 months old by the time that happened so I don't really remember. Also; hasn't a lot of the Camelot magic been chipped away by now?

Sure. Any important public figure who dies young tends to be romanticized, even after all their faults and flaws are dug up and exposed. But when it's the assassination of a US President, that crosses into new territory.

I've heard others compare it to 9/11. Not just something they read about in history books, or a date in time they memorize...but an event they experienced in real time, with personal memory.

Considering what a sleaze ball Kennedy was one would hope. Its sad and tragic that he died that way but its kind of stupid to blindly worship someone simply for getting killed. And the media circus around his screwed up family is also just sad.

You only know about his exploits because the "Camelot magic" was chipped away over time. He wasn't very different from many men, or men in positions of power, who acted like "sleaze balls" during that time. Too bad that doesn't mean you'd recognize that equal rights, civil rights, and feminism played a part in progressing your own social views...and what it means to be a sleaze ball.

Actually, he was quite a "slut" even by the standards of the time. And he ran the presidency, particularly the intelligence and foreign policy component of it, like a family fief. The Bay of Pigs was but one of many intelligence failures for which he was responsible, and it wasn't anywhere near the worst one in terms of the perceived likelihood of its success.

Name any POTUS, or administration, that wasn't flawed in some way. Hindsight is always 20/20.

Nice dodge, as usual. The point isn't that he was flawed; the point is that he was part of the most flawed US administration since WWII (Carter probably topped him though), and he managed all those screw-ups in half a term.

Our lovely snow came with frigid temps, lots of ice, and "frozen fog" :sour: Daytime melting, nighttime icing, with predictions for 5-6 more inches of snow later today. The traffic is already messed up with black ice and accidents -- a 30+ car pile-up on interstate roads near Philly. ugh

I managed to piss off a 13 year old so badly, by spamming Pikachu's lighting in Super Smash Brothers, that he threw a chair into a wall.

Teenagers are so much fun.
