starting to see reports that the shooter was 20 year old parent of a kindergartener that was being bullied. If that comes out to be true, how prevalent was the bullying that its coming out this fast...
CNN apparently released the wrong name attempting to identify the shooter. Now some innocent person has been horribly defamed as well.
Could even result in a lawsuit, wouldn't be surprised or that much angered. They could send a lot of drama this person's way.
Another massacre, this time little kids!
It also saddened me this wasn't mentioned in D & D, even late in the day. Maybe that's a WTF?
I can't begin to imagine the shock and devastation those parents are feeling. Send your Kindergartener off to school, with their Disney or Action Hero backpacks, their snack or lunch tucked inside with notebooks and crayons, excited about the holiday concert or classroom decorating, maybe even a Christmas gift for the teacher....but they're never coming home.
Indeed, your precious child is laying still and dead on a cold classroom floor, part of a gruesome crime scene. You can't enter to touch and cradle your baby, let alone make an identification, because there's too much blood and death strewn around.
It's just too much. TOO MUCH.
Netflix is down. Forcing thousands of families to start up actual conversations. Including this one.
Sony announced today that they are ending production of the PS2. With that and the closing of Nintendo Power, my childhood took a good beating this month.
Some of my pupils seem to have found my mobile number and made prank calls several times during the last week.
However, our lawmakers were not stupid when creating our telecommunication laws and required our providers to offer a free ACR (anonymous call rejection) option. Which is now enabled.
Goodbye prank calls! :p
I have a big scratch in my ski goggles, at least it's not in the central line of view.
Does it show up as missed? Also, you probably could take off the ACR after 6-7 months, I'm sure interest will be completely lost then.Quote:
free ACR (anonymous call rejection)
Doesn't show up at all - callers only get an announcement that "The person you're trying to reach does not wish to be called by anonymous callers. Please enable number forwarding."
In other news: My good-for-nothing brother just called me in order to ask me that I might pick him up in Braunschweig (~25 km from here). However, I know that he left driving the car of my mother (his own car is... in less than well condition. Also, my parents are on vacation in Switzerland at the moment). When I asked him about that he answered that he left the car somewhere. Somewhere? "Well, it's in Winnigstedt! We probably have to pick that up as well!"
That's ~12 km in the opposite direction to my town and Braunschweig. That's not the first time he pulled such a stunt. I'm of the opinion that he somehow managed to get from Winnigstedt to Braunschweig on his own and that he can very well manage to get back there on his own. I'm also not willing to drive around for about an hour (and pay for the fuel, to boot) just to enable him to drink alcohol without paying for the consequences of his inability to plan ahead.
I mean, I probably would have done that if he had asked me yesterday - but this calling out of the blue just pisses me off.
Oh look, he made it home on his own.
Which brings me to my next topic for this thread: My 1-year old car is making noises. To be exact: It sounds like the V-belt. However, it doesn't make those sounds when the engine is cold and in low gear, the "twittering" starts whenever I either accelerate or drive over a small obstacle like a bump in the road, regardless of the gear it's currently in. And the engine is warm at this point.
Oh, well. I'll call the car dealer tomorrow and we'll see what he has to say about that.
I'm still juggling health concerns and insurance policies. It's a fricking nightmare. I called the psychiatrist to adjust my meds, but was told the timeframe meant I'd be a new patient...and he wasn't taking new patients. What a crock. Yay Rah for the USA, #1 :cheerleader:
What would happen if you stopped all meds? Completely, cold-turkey.
I think its time I dug for less mainstream subreddits. I posted the clean up process to r/gaming and I hit the front page early last night. 900+ karma. 3 times the karma compared to my previous winner, when the Atari forums imploded.
Rest in Peace Funky Claude.
I had that same problem with my general practice doctor, GGT. Because I was pregnant I didn't go to him for a year and a half, so suddenly I was considered a new patient. He was kind of a douche anyway. It took me a few different offices, but I think I'm okay with the one I'm at now (though her receptionist is a ditz and I've had to correct her a few times).
So, we had our garage open all day Sunday, putting in our Christmas decor. Yesterday, I went into the garage to do laundry and a little gray mouse ran in front of me. After the previous issues with roaches, I didn't want to risk him coming in the house. I tried to leave the outer door open ajar in hopes he would leave. Hubby said we needed to get traps to be on the safe side. Of course, he forgot to buy them on the way home from work, so I had to go buy them today. Just got the cheap spring-loaded Victor traps. The traps were only out for an hour; then I heard the snap. The little gray mouse is no more. :( Now I have to get the courage up to put on some gloves and dispose of him. I have no second thoughts killing insects (except I do try to catch crickets and moths and release them back out). But killing this little furry thing bothered me. I want to get a cat eventually and maybe it will do the job for me.
Here in America, we're just $ to them.
That kinda sucks. The relationship to the GP is considered something like the one to you pastor here.
I'm sure there are a lot of good ones out there, and if you have health problems you tend to have a better relationship since you are in the office more than once a year. I was just being a jerk in my last post.
Where's Nessie got to these days?
I fear for the left-right balance of these here forums. :o
Cat, don't be too quick to remove the trapped rodents...it sends a message to other rodents that might keep them at bay.
I know what you mean about the whole thing in....in terms of marital responsibility and safety concerns. It's very cultural and often quite confusing. We don't like to kill cute furry creatures simply looking for food and shelter, but we also don't want them causing damage to our homes, or bringing diseases to our domestic pets--or human children.
Some folks put out salt lick blocks for the deer who've been displaced by new construction. They think of it like wild bird feeders, but neglect the fact that deer can't fly across traffic like birds can. Then there's the Lyme Disease component that comes with deer ticks, easily transferred to our domestic pets, or humans themselves.
"Bugs" me that I can't work in my backyard without taping cuffs, wearing a hat and boots, and applying a DDT derivate to my skin first.
Yes, after telling my sister about my ordeal she has told me a few things to use in the future to keep rodents from coming in. Apparently they don't like the smell of peppermint oil. And there are cat scents you can place in the garage to trick them into thinking you have felines about the property. Or, I could just get a cat. I'd love one, but want to wait until the kid is a little older.
Little bit of advice for the future: If you or a family member are home for most of the day then one cat is okay. Should nobody be home for half or more of the day, then you should strongly consider getting two cats. This is especially important for cats which have to stay indoors most of the time.
In Istanbul we used to have mice, the solution for this was allowing a black street cat in every now and then. He gets food and a place to sleep in the kitchen when it's cold outside, and we haven't seen a mouse in a year.
