Congrats!
Yay, congrats!
Thanks you lovely forum-types. :)
Oh, it's GAMES! Or a building game surrounded around.....getting games. Gotcha :noob:
Way to go, Tim! Probably a good time to get out of global banking anyway ;) Congrats and enjoy the new job. Must feel like a huge weight has been lifted from your shoulders. Hope you celebrate....and get a kick out of ironing your work/dress shirts again. :)
:haha:
My rhododendrons decided to bloom this morning, their swollen bulbs finally opening to reveal their soft purple colored petals that will grow darker in color over time, having taken back seat to early blooming azaleas with their tiny flowers far too long. These are the big bloomers that have a heavenly scent that wafts through the evening spring and summer nights, opening like saucers to bumble bees, with hearty and leathery leaves, practically daring other foliage around them to bloom just as great.
I survived a heart attack.
This pleases me! :)
Gratz on the job Tim!
woah, how serious was that?
Oh my gosh, Crow! I hope you are feeling better. That's a very scary thing to happen to someone, especially as young as you! Please take care of yourself :)
Oh yeah, I may have a job :o I was very worried even though the interview went well and they seemed very keen on filling that opening, and tbh I'm still kinda worried because until the papers have been signed anything could go wrong (in my mind), but they're hammering out a six-month schedule for me so if things go pear-shaped it'll do so for all parties :o anyway if things work out I'll be working at the neurology clinic here as a junior doctor from the beginning of july to the end of december. Advantages (besides neurology being awesome :D) are that it's right here in town, it's a great clinic that ultimately has half of Sweden as its catchment area, there's a lot of interesting research going on, I'll learn a great deal, I'll get used to being on call and get plenty of practice with handling emergencies, the outpatient load is reasonable and the work very fun, and the salary's actually decent (esp. for being an attractive university hospital). Disadvantages are that I'll be on call a lot, bit too often at night, and the emergency stuff I'll be handling will almost exclusively consist of super-emergent things like stroke patients who have to undergo eg. thrombolysis, so I'll be required to sleep at the hospital on those shifts and basically turn myself into a sprinter.
Still, looking forward to it... if it works out it'll be great and give me another half year in this town, which is nice 'cause the ginger has one semester left and also we both hate moving. It'll also give me some time to find a good place to do my internship, my specialist training and er my life. Well, time and energy. Being relaxed is better than being worried :o anyway, I'm beginning to think that finding a town that'll be good for both me and the missus won't be too difficult. Best of all my references from my last employer are solid, so if this doesn't pan out I have a good shot at the jobs that remain for this year, and I'll always have the option of going back to that lovely town in which I spent last summer.
tl;dr: looks like i have a job, it's a tough but good job, future looks all right
oh yeah and also
we're getting engaged  don't tell anyone until we've told our parents pls
I've got a coupon for a Skywriter. Anyone know where his parents live?
The CPU arrived. The new computer is ALIVE!
Happy with its current clock, bumped the memory from 1333 to 1600, and the CPU from 3.4/3.8 to 3.8/4.4 (regular/ turbo boost). Turned the video card up from its stock settings to what eVGA considers factory superclocked. All this without having to mess with any voltage settings.
With the front and rear fans sets to silent, and the radiator fans set to their lowest settings, temps haven't topped 65C on the CPU yet.
EDIT:
Think I can finally drop 3dmark01 from my benchmarking collection, all the low detail tests where listing FPS of 999 :haha: Ended up with a score of 68,163.
Just recorded 108,825 in 3dmark03 :haha::up:
Congratulations to Minx's and Crow's  s
So, I was recently given an invitation I couldn't refuse, and I'll be planning a week 'vacation' in Ontario, Canada with a very nice lady around August. Many shenanigans will be had. :D
It didn't make me happy, but it made me laugh:
Michele Bachmann now has dual citizenship in Switzerland. Because her husband has Swiss ancestors. Gosh, maybe she should be "investigated" for having anti-American sentiments....or a SSSSocialist agenda....or hiding assets in a Swiss bank account? :haha:
The SNL writers could have a heyday with this kinda thing. I'm hoping for a skit this weekend. :D
It's easy to play the patriotism card here, but socialism? Switzerland isn't exactly Sweden.
yes
Because of supposed dual-loyalties...
