Ive been known to do that for the preorder bonuses, especially the physical ones. Since they let you cancel the preorder at any time and use that money towards your current purchase. I still have a Assassins Creed 3 steelbook with no disc to put in it. When Quake 4 came out I preordered 3 copies, just to get extra shirts.
