Also, I believe the missus and I are in agreement on Shakira's permanent position on the list :o
Yesterday was a rough day but then shortly after heading out after an unusually rough day and another evening working overtime I was told I'd won a small annual "award" for clinical teaching! It's not the most prestigious prize in the world and this year it isn't going to make me eligible for winning the national prize but I'm very happy =) not only because I've wanted at least one such prize but also because it really does take a lot of time and almost always entails a few hours of overtime every week. It's also very fun and best of all I guess is that I get a prize for doing something I enjoy and put effort into :) I can't really brag anywhere else atm except for at home so *bragbrag*
Had my picture taken today and looked like a total dork but it's been a good day all in all. We've been able to give some good news after a few weeks of giving bad news... I've "fixed" a stew that my wife had been so excited about making and then so disappointed by due to a mistake that turned it very bitter, but now there's just a hint of bitterness left that actually adds to the flavour... saw Ender's Game yesterday and have a nice-ish weekend up ahead... was asked to join the parkinson team (mixed blessing since I've started working on some research for another team)... man I'm just happy. Should be careful, this much happiness is usually imminently followed by destruction and tragedy and I can see death-by-paperwork in my future, but still
Congrats Minxie. Brag away ...
Congrats
Got it to work this week; the material pretty much does what we predicted it would. Lots of optimization and hard work left to do, but it looks like the basic idea worked! We're about to blow the minds of the company we're collaborating with. :D
(And yes, it took me 5 months to move from product conception to proof-of-concept; research is slow.)
Congratulations, wiggin! Designing a whole new class of biomaterials is a really big deal. That it acts predictably is even bigger.
I was feeling happy that I got a nice haircut today. So, uhm, yeah....
After dipping my toes in the murky waters of General Insurance for the last 18 months, I've accepted an opportunity to rejoin the global bank that put me out on redundancy 2 years ago, but on a 12k higher salary.
Had 2nd stage interview yesterday morning. By the afternoon they were onto my agent, saying that they were willing to make me an offer, and that if I'd accept they would cancel two other candidates they were in the process of interviewing for the position.
Said yes with little hesitation.
Back to global HQ, working in Business Intelligence, initially in the Global Banking & Markets division.
Oh yes, I'm a happy camel. :)
Wow that's amazing Timmy congrats!

I liked Gmail's Priority Inbox innovation but I absolutely love the new tabbed inbox layout where promotions, social media notifications etc are filtered to different tabs (which I'll probably almost never look in). I especially like there's an extra one which I've manually activated for order confirmation emails etc too.
The funny thing is that this tabbed layout didn't activate for me automatically (possibly because I'd chosen a Priority layout) but I received a couple of emails from firms advising if I wanted to receive their marketing spam I should filter it to go to my normal inbox - when actually I'm quite happy for it to be filtered away thank you very much. So thanks to them I've now activated this manually and love it.
picked up these from Woot a few days ago:

Connected to my PC via the optical out.
Absolutely amazing quality. I was worried about the 2.4ghz wireless, but my network is 5ghz, and I'm getting zero interference. Speakers in the headset created a depth with the sound that I've never experienced before with other headsets.
High of 33 in Beersheva today. Not a cloud in the sky. Sure beats the -8 we left in Boston. :D
Might be working on an 'expressionist horror short', whatever that may be. :)
About kat's life prior to capture and genetic manipulation by the FBI?
I finally bought my dream watch. I usually don't wear watches but I aways said, if I wear one it needs to be one I love and this it is:

Nice watch, EJ.
Happy to have had an extended family Thanksgiving holiday. Even happier to return home. Man, those family holidays need a follow-up vacation! :mong:
Very elegant EJ, not obnoxious like dream watches so often are :)
First advent came with lots of fluffy snow while I was on call  an unusually understaffed ER and the rest of the hospital was almost brought to its knees by a wobbly obnoxious loud stampede of extraordinarily drunk young men and women in various stages of distress ranging from worried to almost-dead. Saturday night right after payday, who'da thunk it. But I had just the right amount of work, there were mountains of delicious fika everywhere, I got to see a patient with a likely very weird diagnosis and was called to the stroke ward by nice people for emergency hanging-out-eating-yums. It's not often I like being on call saturday night but this was a good one.
Omega also has the best commercial on TV, hands down. :) My dad's Omega watch from the 50's is still quite lovely in its simplicity. Maybe I should take it out of the memento box, get it cleaned up, and actually use it.
Finally rid myself of an annoying cold. Now, I get the unimpeded joy of finishing packing before I start my cross country drive this weekend to Utah. I'm sure my cat is going to absolutely loath me for a week after he discovers what snow is.
Saved enough to get my wisdom teeth pulled. Off work for 4 days because of it. If I don't post again, know that someone fucked something up.
Hells yeah: http://www.omegawatches.com/collecti...43133412103001
I love mechanical watches too, but have always worn a hand-me-down. Never had it in me to pull the trigger on something bold and beautiful like that. Very very nice.
Snow! :D About 4 inches of the pretty white stuff, first real snow of the season. It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas....fa la la
1,160 miles down, 975 to go. Just hoping I-80 stays clear the whole way.
Signing contract again this week, and from the 16th I am employed again :) And it seems as a celebration, campus security fucked up and everybodies access pass for people with the same job as me stopped working, and they didn't let one guy in at all for his night shift :p GE must be thrilled about that, a night's production is worth between 100k and 200k..
Gus Fring will not be pleased...
