Fixing up used furniture is a great thing. So much usable stuff is thrown out and wasted. The phrase 'up-cycling' has become quite prominent here, where old furniture is fixed up and had new life breathed into it. Become quite trendy in some circles.
How that relates to taking a trip to Hungary or why it's somehow demeaning for Minxie to then admire 'Minous's handiwork is beyond me.
I loved my vacation and am under no delusions as to just how unusually privileged I am to suddenly have a life that permits me to take a luxurious vacation abroad with little regard for my bank-balance.Quote:

Millions of people over the world endure deeply unfair social systems, the burden of expensive and unfair healthcare, lack of access to contraceptives and various medicines, lack of access to basic schooling for women, lack of access to top-loading washing machines etc. Yet we see you complaining about these apparent injustices and affronts routinely here on this forum, you who live in one of the most developed and privileged nations in the world. Maybe it's because some things are just bad no matter how privileged you are?
As for furniture, man, I wish we had the same system you have over there partly because it'd let me easily get rid of furniture in such a way that it'd be of use to someone else and partly because it'd let us easily get furniture that we could restore or upcycle. Restoring and upcycling furniture is what we used to do at home as a kid back when we had easy access to a place where people'd leave furniture, and it's something I enjoy because it's a fun challenge to make something really cool out of a piece of "old" furniture without really spending much money. I'm not sure what your problem is wrt this furniture business so feel free to clarify.
While I loved the fact that I saved that dresser from warping in the elements for weeks before someone burned it, hauled it away, or got fined for it; and I love the fact that my daughter was so eager to help make it her own...
I'd instantly trade the dresser, ALL OF OUR DRESSERS, to be where aimless has been.
No but seriously man that airport check-in procedure was REALLY annoying :o :noob:
Some airports are VERY poorly organized, I agree. They make things far more stressful than they should be.
Also, finding used stuff AND being able to take the occasional trip is awesome. I'm not sure if this makes me better or worse than our darling minxy.

Funny, I was thinking the same thing about "happy" kudos. You can sell your used furniture on-line, or use a consignment shop in Sweden, right? I knew you weren't trying to make anyone feel bad, but suggested you did so accidentally. Good intentions can be misinterpreted ;)

"Some people" of course, it's called a "typo". I know very well you can sell used furniture online and that there are special shops for that as well. I usually sell or give my things away online on eg. equivalents of craigslist or on facebook groups dedicated to giving things away to whoever may need or want them. It's almost as if you don't realise that there is a unique benefit (with its own unique disadvantages, granted) to being able to leave something by the side of the road (or in a specially dedicated "garbage room" or whatever) where someone can find it while just walking around.
You're just the oddest person GGT, why you deliberately try to make people feel bad about non-evil things I will never understand :o it's worse than Tear haranguing Choobs about having a nice home. Like, what's the point? Wtf. The worst happy-threader

I'm feeling Happy today....thanks to A/C, and the ability to afford it during heat waves. Met-Ed sent out phone and e-mail alerts a few days ago, asking its consumer clients to "conserve" energy by setting home thermostat systems to 80 degrees, and not running electric dishwashers, washing machines, dryers, or ovens during "Peak" energy times. ie, they haven't upgraded the grid, but entire cities/towns/counties still face brown-outs, outages, and shut-downs....
My "Happy" could be turned to "Unhappy" pretty quick...if I don't understand how public systems work, or why.

So yesterday while getting coffee I overheard a couple of senior consultants and an intern discussing the proper management of a dizzy patient and I felt they were going in the wrong direction so I deftly inserted myself into the conversation and nudged them in the right direction so they'd do a CT including an arterial angiography to rule out a left vertebral artery dissection rather than waiting for an MRI or for an ENT consult, head-impulse test etc. I wondered if they'd go through with it but it turns out they did and, wouldn't you know it, the patient did have a small dissection of the left vertebral artery along with a clot more proximally and a small cerebellar infarction.
It sucks a little for the patient but honestly this sort of thing is usually in the top 5 of the list of things that make doctors very happy so I'm kinda bouncy today :) also it's a good thing it was caught early, because there's a high risk of swift and severe deterioration in the early stages.
In London tonight for Monty Python live at the O2 Arena live. Amanda got me tickets for my birthday, opportunity of a lifetime not a group I ever thought I'd get to see perform live.
