I'm from the government, and I'm here to help. :o
Terrible, absolutely terrible news
I was kinda annoyed because we busted our butts to get a regulatory submission into the government machinery before the assumed shutdown (since once the clock starts, they're bound by it, whether they're paid or not), but now all of our efforts to turn the submission around in record time look pretty silly.
Just wait until you see how many people expected a vacation this week and therefore take leave. :o
I'm also curious what happens to all the contractors who didn't expect to get paid for the next few weeks.
Been dealing with my parents end of life. Fucking terrible. Big Eye Opener. There is NO REWARD for longevity. Fuck long life, fuck the death industry, fuck the human condition. Humanity top to bottom start to finish is a fucking disaster. Utterly pointless, all of it.
The ER admitted my mother at 2am this morning, saying she needed emergency surgery. It is now 6pm, and they just took her off the "npo" order and gave her a (liquid) dinner which is an admission that the surgery isn't gonna happen for at least another 12 hours
Shitty way to end a year. I hope she's gotten the surgery by now.
Nope. Limited OR availability because of the holiday and the inflammation was bad enough they couldn't do the surgery laporoscopically so they pushed it until (hopefully) late this afternoon to give them time to try and bring the inflammation down and avoid having to actually open her up.
I’m on a multi-day roadtrip from Istanbul and I’m getting seriously annoyed with my ability to lose stuff. It started with me leaving the pet passports for Bella and Leona on the desk of the receptionist at the vet clinic, then I managed to not put my driver’s license back where I always put it and sure enough I stuck it in a pocket from where it could fall out in a bathroom (likely). Then at the Croatian border I get picked out for a luggage check resulting in my overnight bag not making its way back in the car. Nothing very special lost, but a serious nuisance causing a need to replace a lot of stuff.
She was in the hospital a total of six days but they got the sepsis under control and the surgery was a success and they even managed to get it all done without having to fully open her up though that was apparently still a very near thing. She's back home and largely recovered now.
Kids being bombed and starved to death in Gaza because ZioNazi Jews think they are very moral and have a right to do so.
Talked to some distant relatives who are Trumpists. Everything is going great because there are ongoing investigations that will reveal everything (said with a huge smile). And it's only a matter of time before Fauci is imprisoned for everything he's done. Trump is also great for protecting kids from nefarious schools, though the things he's protecting them from are not important enough to remember. Needless to say, there's absolutely nothing that could happen in the real world that would change these people's minds.
Any comment on the Epstein thing? Expectations that Trump would release the "client list" and related files seemed to be of great importance to the MAGA crowd a while ago. How do they cope with the fact that Trump has pretty much declared that there's nothing to see here, move on, folks?
Couldn't be bothered to bring up Epstein. And Roberts will sooner herald forth a fourth Reich than send Trump to prison.
There's a certain irony that this forum was basically killed by Israel's actions. And sad that most of Israel's strongest backers here couldn't offer even a mild condemnation for some of the world's most egregious war crimes (especially once you take into account their scale and number) in recent memory. I don't think even most of Israel's Western critics could have foreseen this level of savagery.
I think there was a point when it became obvious that it wasn't about destroying Hamas, rescuing hostages or even enacting some biblical style revenge for 7/10, but rather that 7/10 was just used as justification for speed-running policies Israel wanted to do anyway. And that point was probably somewhere in 2024.
Eh, I thought it was about little more than revenge by mid-October 2023. Once the Hamas attack happened, there was little Israel could accomplish by invading Gaza. But the level of brutality has only increased over time since that attack.
Some military response to 7/10 was always going to be political necessity, even if it was fruitless on a strictly practical level. The level of ferocity was obvious very quickly but Oct 7 was also the worst attack in Israeli history, so, you know, kind of expected - if you're inclined to view Israel in a favourable light then you still have a case you can make in late 2023, but by early to mid 2024 (I forget the exact timeline), you're done.
The stated objective from the start was to destroy Hamas, which was never going to happen. And rules of engagement were immediately set to whatever Assad had them set to.
Trump's been building his American Gestapo with ICE, now he's setting on the first steps to create his Schutzstaffen, directing the creation of "specialized units" in the National Guard for suppressing public protest
Not a wonderful time to have loved ones in occupied US cities ngl.
What ever happened to all the free speech warriors over here?
