Heh, you actually think its something recent? That's so cute.

heh, I looked it up.
Still, not sure when American women started Brazilian waxing, but doubt we'd find too many 75 yr old women who do it. Never know tho.Quote:
In Middle Eastern societies, removal of the female body hair has been considered proper hygiene, necessitated by local customs, for many centuries.[4] In Islam, this is known as an act of Fitrah. Evidence of pubic hair removal in ancient India dates back to 4000 to 3000 BC, [5] the removal of pubic hair by Western women became more common when bathing suits became abbreviated, starting in 1945.[1] Changes in lingerie styles have also encouraged the removal of pubic hair throughout the years.[2](p139)

Most American women between the ages of 20 and 30 going completely bald is OLD? You do realise you're pretty young, right?
Yes, people have shaved/waxed/epilated their genitalia clean for many years, no it wasn't as widespread back in the days as it is now. Don't be silly.
Because I'm speculating about pubic hair based on what a 20-something girl told me about what her friends say? Are you really taking this that seriously?
That's what impresses me —*that you've read all of these and you're just going back to find them.
that's what SCARES me
You're on a forum with a worldwide reach, while pubic hair may have been the comical highlight of your trip, what you're taking away from the experience, and passing on from it, is a problem you display in far more serious topics. :noob:
Rather bring it up in a topic without a point, than risk derailing a more serious thread.
No, you getting apoplectic at me simply relaying what I see/hear suggests you take things too seriously, lack an inquisitive outlook towards real life (beyond movies and video games) and need to get out more.
Which is what I'm doing. Time to get on a train for a few hours for an annual August blowout with friends. Goal is 2.5 gallons of mojitos this year. See everyone on Monday.
If this cross country soul searching is a new thing for you, I'm willing to bet I've spent more time in LA than yourself
I didn't know I needed a thread on my travels to every state this side of the mississippi, especially since I understand that what I experienced is hardly an indicator of how a region is for the locals. Although that would make for some awesome growing pains self pics.
dread! don't forget the lynchburg lemonades!! don't listen to that lolo :bulb:
My 'fetish' isn't weird. :sour:
And I'm not 'into jungles'.
I just like whatever is down there untampered with, whether the girl is naturally hairy or naturally not.
Shaving down there is unsightly to me.
Cold plucked chicken is all I think of when I see it.
~
This shaving business is just a passing fad for some people, like hairstyles or anything else. It is currently the popular thing. Um. What's the word. For the currently popular thing. Um. Bugger. I swear as I enter middle-age my memory is going to pot.
Lynchburg Lemonade!
And speaking of pubes, I don't really care if it's all shaven or not (though I like it well-kept), but I twice had fun times with a girl who later apologised for not being shaved because they didn't expect things to go that far. Like I care, if you forgot to shave it's still well kept anyway! It amused me a lot, and I still tease one of them with it :p
Trend? ;)
Cold plucked chicken. :haha: Or a 12 year old.
Personal preference I suppose, but a few pubic hairs in the teeth sounds kinda lame as a reason. Sex is supposed to be sweaty, wet, messy, full of scents and textures and tastes. So what if there's some hair involved? And no one talks about the in-between stages of pussy stubble or ingrown hairs from shaving, and waxing has to have some new growth to pull.
Yeah, I know I've been gone for a few days but can you please just tone down the aggression and stop taking things so seriously? It's the Internet.
When someone makes a post with casual observations deliberately meant to sound like an aloof visitor to an alien world, there's no reason to constantly and consistently grumble about the deeper meaning of it.
I don't pick at every casual post or observation you make with a personal attack. That would be too easy; you once freaking sicked 4Chan on your domestic partner. You live on a different planet than most people here.
But you need to understand that most people go places, see things and relay what they saw. They also express generalized opinions about stuff. This is normal, this is human. And I'm getting tired of making these kinds of general posts and waiting for your inevitable passive-aggressive reply. It feels like I'm talking to a guy with a lot of anger issues and probably a decent level of stress in his personal life who has decided to lash out at me over the past few months. It's unpleasant and annoying.
In Turkey pretty much everybody removes all; both men and women (I have heard). In Holland it seems to be trimming is de rigeur these days.
Hazir, would that total removal also apply to older people, or is there an age cut-off? (The funny thing about hair removal is, the longer you do it, the less new hair will grow. And the older you get, less hair grows anyway. It's noticeable on men who wear slacks for decades---they chaffe the hair right off their calves. Women who pluck their eyebrows eventually don't grow any, and have to use eyebrow liners and pencils).
I think it really matters what group of people you hang with, since it seems to me shaving all is 'in' for girls around me.
And Dread, don't forget that the entire idea of generalizing and stereotyping is that you base it on too few samples and that it really doesn't apply to everybody ;) What's the fun of it if you can't even do that anymore
What does this even mean? There is no aggression here :bulb: I thought I've done pretty good in trying to show you where you crossed the line from vacation observations into over generalizing, and I managing to do it without insulting or attacking you. Which is more than I can say for the rest of your post.
And really, how many times you going to drop the "seriously..internet" line before you understand it also doesn't make any sense. If it did, this entire forum wouldn't exist. I suspect you're taking the defensive stance far more seriously than I'm trying to show you why you're coming up short. I don't know if you are going for hypocrisy, or if you're trying to polarize this far worse than I am.
You'll notice I didn't have any issue with your original post. On that level you are learning. I thought the "sample size of 1" was a nice touch. Then you took it and turned it into an age thing, then a region thing. You're suffering from a disconnect there. I point that out and you blew a gasket from that point forward.Quote:

You think I'm personally attacking you? Maybe this is your hangup. Maybe you're getting all overly defensive because you're worried I'm taking away from the experience of your trip. Maybe you'e asking to much of your trips. I pointed out a flaw in your reasoning. It could have very well ended there, and you could have used that knowledge for the inevitable part 3.Quote:

I'm asking you to think hard about why you took my postings in this thread as a personal attack. I highly doubt you're discover it has anything to do with me.
Oh man, if only this was even remotely true. :haha:Quote:

If you want to, you could even use this line to highlight the bigger issue here. This is my experience, posted in the same manner for everyone to see. You're the only one to connect that I've "sicked" 4chan on anyone. You went into something with already existing expectations, and thats what you got out of it. That a) I would do that, and b) 4chan is something that deserves a negative connotation of being "sicked" on someone or something.
Then we've got the trolling remark of being from a different planet. Thats classy.
This is good, lots of us do that here. You're far from the only person who has talked about taking a vacation. Most of us even provide pictures!Quote:
But you need to understand that most people go places, see things and relay what they saw.
The sad part is that you don't see the difference between an opinion, and how you're posting :cry:Quote:
They also express generalized opinions about stuff. This is normal, this is human.
Again, this is you entering into an event with preset expectations. There was nothing aggressive about my post, there was no reason for you to flip out and take such a serious line againist it.Quote:

Talk about unpleasant and annoying, this is nothing but insults and trolling. :down:Quote:

Please don't ever try to become a psychiatrist :bulb:
:haha: Good catch.
but really, it doesn't even have to go that far. Why should someone be allowed to accuse another user of being to serious simply because they want to defend a point. Why would they be given the ability to judge what should and should not be taken seriously for everyone.
The line is a copout, it doesn't help move the discussion in a meaningful direction.
Directly related to this, I wasn't even trying to be serious, that much should have been obvious from the first time I quoted Dread. yet because the conversation happens to be carrying on, its gotten to serious for the internet to handle? :bulb:
Maybe this has something to do with how our experiences shape our perceptions, or how our behaviour affects the way people treat us. Ie. everything that's said here is open for interpretation and that interpretation depends on past experiences with the posters in question. This is how we know not to get offended when Nessie calls us the c-word :downcast:
Thats a good point, and I tried to touch on it when I mentioned existing expectations. How places that are designed to nullify previous posting experience allow for direct conversation on matters without users using previous history to derail or lessen any conversation. Wanted to mention places reddit with its throwaway accounts, or even 4chan's annon posting; but 4chan had already been presented in a conflicting manner :().
I think we somewhat mentioned this problem (of carrying baggage from thread to thread) in the site discussion thread about enforcing the rules.
4chan is much larger than the headline grabbing /b/ boards. This is something moot has to cover in just about every interview he gives. Hell, he even had to explain that to the courts when he testified in thePalin email trial. Not that they aren't known to do positive things as well, like providing places for each other to crash, or down right covering a stranger's rent.
I guess this kinda falls into the agrument I was maing in the first place, taking a sample size of 1 (/b/), and expanding it beyond what you have a working knowledge of (4chan).
Yeah, I didn't want to mention this before but you do seem to approach things by trying to paint some kind of quasi-psychological profile of what people are really thinking, implying, saying, etc.
It's pedantic and frustrating. This isn't the first time I've brought up your reflexive response to my posts and it's certainly not the most extreme instance. But it's emblematic of your obvious and unwarranted frustration towards me me for the past few months.
You're suffering from selective reading :( I subscribed with a simple post in the same light heartiness you opened the thread with. Your problem with overgeneralizing didn't come up till like a dozen replies later, which I then replied in kind to.
I'm not focusing on you, so you can push your ego aside for the moment.
You do happen to be behaving as one of the more childish posters lately however. Thats what I'm picking up on. You suffer from the same set of problematic posting trends on a regular basis. You talk down to people, you riddle your posts with insults when it starts getting away from you, you finely admitted behind why you drop lines like "dude" when you start losing ground in a discussion, and you're horrible at projecting in order to excuse yourself from a debate.
Again, honestly, its not about you. I spend far more time on sites that don't revolve around user names, its sort of a habit for me to not look for those first. Its about the way you post, if anyone posted in the same manner I'd bring it up with them to. In fact I do it quite commonly when Loki starts losing it.
