We have the same over/under diagnosis and over/under treatment problem in the US. And not just for psych issues, but also for things like post-op pain and chronic pain that results in over-prescribing powerful narcotics....that can become opiate dependency, and sometimes heroin use. Since there's overlapping 'failure' between your NHS and our mixed private/public healthcare, it's hard to lay blame on any one medical delivery or payment system.
But that doesn't stop Lewk from conflating issues, or contorting them to fit his ideology! According to him, any time criminal behavior is attributed to a medical malady, and gets a reduced or alternative sentence in court....it's because lib'ruls have made us soft on crime, or some such thing.
If a low IQ adult commits a crime, but can't be held legally responsible like other adults, he blames medical doctors and IQ tests. If a mentally ill person commits a crime during a hallucination, and doesn't know right from wrong, he blames psychiatrists when the court sentences them to serve time in a hospital setting instead of a prison.
Hey, Lewk, what do you think about John Hinkley being released? Has he served enough time, and gotten the treatment he needed to NOT be a threat to the community at large....or would you have FRIED him years ago?
