Should I go skydiving?

Today I registered for the skydiving. Also paid the ridiculous $100 for pictures and a video. Why not?

This seems like one of the larger skydiving organizations in the country I'm visiting. Then that night I'll be seeing a 1960s band play with violinists. Should be a blast.

Dread, I had a friend who died from skydiving. The parachute wasn't packed correctly, so it failed to open on first pull. The reverse chute opened but he was close to the ground by then there was no way it could slow him down in time.

So what does the forward chute do? Make you fall faster?

I once passed out for a couple of second when I deployed my chute. I was looking over my shoulder to see why it didn't deploy, and because of that movement it deployed while I was looking snapped my head and knocked me out for 3-4 seconds.

Waking up at 3,000 feet is an interesting experience :)

I think dying from a fall at 14,000 feet would be pretty damn terrifying...but I'm signed up and confident it'll be awesome.

The part that is terrifying is the ground rush that starts at about 800 feet above the ground. Before that you don't really notice the ground closing in on you at 100+ mph. But when once you get to the ground rush it's pretty much over unless your reserve deploys properly. Five seconds of fear max. :)
