Yes, indeed we've seen black and Hispanic voter participation rates positively cratering over the past two decades. And that cratering is definitely because of a patchwork of state level legislation in Georgia and Texas, where a legal apartheid reigns to make it easier to vote in NY and Delaware.
I think it depends on how you define "here". A Supreme Court ruling on interstate travel for services legal in one state but not in another would be a fairly "normal" ruling.
What's never been normal has been how Roe prevented democratic debate on a controversial issue. Interstate policy competition isn't new, and stepping on the policy debate helped turn it into a moral crusade. It's not for nothing that places like Ireland have legalized abortion via referendum.
 You can insert anything into that circular logic.
A: We need to require homeowners to fix leaks
B: This will KILL homeowners, we need water repair equity NAO
A [Five years later]: Well, homeownership rates are higher and per-capita water waste is lower.
B: Just because you didn't kill homeowners doesn't mean you weren't trying to kill homeowners!
So you're saying attempting to stop people from voting isn't a problem as long as the attempt fails at that goal (while still making it harder for certain groups to vote)?

But I'm sure the other justices who said during their confirmation hearings that they wouldn't overturn this, won't, right?
The wording...dear god, the wording in that opinion is such trash. Guaranteed if this opinion makes it to decision that its going to be used to attack the LGBTQ community. The US is being driven to the brink by the craziest 30% of its citizens. Are we ready to pack the court yet?
I'm sure the language will be cleaned up in the final draft, but this just shows that a majority of Supreme Court justices are basically Lewk.
What a shithole country
I am having fun calling out liberals on socials who are once again using the term "women's right to choose" as being transphobic bigots. ;)
Some states are already targeting pharmaceutical abortions (and whether a prescription can be mailed across state lines like birth control pills). The "Christian Conservatives" don't want tax dollars funding sex ed in public schools, or birth control at PP clinics. Hell, they don't even want condom distribution in third world countries as part of global public health initiatives.
Their next "mission" is already underway: to overturn other Rights not specifically enumerated in the US Constitution, like transgender health care or sports participation, or which restroom they can use. Then they'll take on gay pride parades, gay sex and same-sex marriage....just like Putin did with "blessings" from the Russian Orthodox Church patriarch.
Almost everyone (ie, lay people) knows the US Supreme Court is ultimately a *political* body, regardless of how hard the legal community pushes against that, and wants to be perceived as apolitical, above the fray. But now it's out there in the open. They lie during their confirmation process and we're stuck with them for LIFE. :(
Why? Because Lewk gets his marching orders from his church, or Fox & Friends, or Tucker Carlson. He's all in on the Culture Wars, "white replacement theory", and men as victims of feminism. He's a troll that's been given permission to be bigoted in the name of Freee Speech, with plenty of big donors and Think Tanks like the Federalist Society, social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter, and cable news outlets like Fox.
Yee Haw for USA exceptionalism! :(
I hope Kennedy is satisfied with what he's done.
Let's not forget:
McConnell blocking Obama's pick
Pushing through a sexual predator
Ramming through RBGs replacement days before an election
Nobody doing anything about Thomas hiding his wife's involvement in the insurrection.
Well of course they are all satisfied. They wanted this. And Ginsburg is dead so she can't see it. But Kennedy let himself be convinced he could retire because Trump admired his legacy, and I agree with GGT that this Court has dismantling a bunch of other "it's MY body and MY life" protections on their agenda. Material largely relying on jurisprudence written by Kennedy. Although, oddly enough, abortion itself is probably where he waffled the most himself

This shit just keeps getting funnier, 10/10 entertainment value.
Reading sources like that is why you are what you are, Lewk. The attempt to rationalize the use of ivermectin shouts stupidity or gullibility.
It's almost like he is showing why legal access to abortions is so important. He is soooo close to self awareness.
Then you realize that his entire political stance is based on whatever makes women and minorities suffer the most.
You go go listen to the Joe Rogan / Sanjay Gupta interview. Joe was prescribed it by his doctor, a human medication for a human. Regardless of the efficacy of ivermectin, the fact that CNN continued in their attempts to smear him shows just how untrustworthy the media is.
Bear in mind that he is a horse's ass, perhaps not surprising that he has strong feelings about horse medicine
Do you think Lewk honestly believes that Rogan is an average joe? Or do you think he purposely ignores that he is one of the media elite that he rails against and can buy pretty much any prescription that he wishes? Assuming of course its all legit, seeing how this is based off of an instagram short where he peddled half a dozen debunked kitchen sink "treatments". Those self made controversies seem to be his only content, being the dollar store version of Stern that he is.
Do you guys realize that Lewk is trying to distract you, and it's working? Focus on the terrible thing that just happened: we found out about peoples rights being taken away too early, and it spoiled the surprise. Just took all the fun right out of it. The leaker needs to fry.
Texas now plans to challenge Plyler V Doe, based solely on what was leaked with this abortion opinion.
Plyler V Doe is what guarantees public education.
It's genuinely remarkable how fucking grotesque these halfwits are. It takes a lot of sustained, coordinated community effort to create people who are this grotesquely stupid.
I was reading on how Alito's draft opinion unexpectedly uses jurisprudence based on substantive due process, something which is normally anathema to his wing of the Court. That explains the emphasis on why this ruling should not be taken to create precedent outside of abortion, they don't want to see substantive due process elsewhere. But they have little reason to use substantive due process here in the first place, it's not necessary to overturn Roe. It or something similar might be required if they want to clear the road for using judicial authority to ban all abortions throughout US jurisdiction via declaring laws permitting abortion to be a violation of the protection against deprivation of life without process of law. All kinds of a stretch and itself bad law but. . . there's really no discernible reason for Alito to be endorsing substantive due process.
