Parking tickets; 2 of my sisters parked in the same street today. My oldest sister parked her car with 4 wheels on the sidewalk, but in such a way that it didn't block anybody's way. She doesn't bother to pay. The second sister parked her car on the street next to a meter and put (too little it turned out) money in the meter. After a while sister two realises that it might be time to pay for parking again. She finds out that she's too late and that she's got a parking ticket to the amount of €60. The other sister, who didn't pay and whose car is on the sidewalk did not get a ticket.
Then she told us the reason for this. Since she parked her car on the sidewalk with all four wheels, she is technically off the street where the duty to pay for parking exists. Parking controllers are only allowed to write fines for parking transgressions. They are however not allowed to write fines for traffic violations, which parking on a sidewalk is. And as long as nobody bothers to call the police, which nobody ever seems to do, she won't get a fine or a parking ticket.

A Paulding County park earned a reputation as a hot spot for public sex until a recent crackdown, said a representative for the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said they started watching Mount Tabor Park in April after receiving information about illegal activity in the area.
Paulding County deputies made five arrests to date, but said several others avoided arrests when they witnessed deputies taking suspects into custody at the park. Deputies said they had several other illicit encounters but those cases did not reach the level of an arrest.
“This type of stranger-on-stranger sexual contact will not be tolerated in our public parks where family and children gather,” said Paulding County Sheriff Gary Gulledge.
Deputies were expected to continue to monitor parks in Paulding County and continue undercover operations, according to the sheriff.

Went to the cinema today to see 'Me and Orson Welles'. Liked the movie, but on coming back home I found out it was made in 2008. IMDB also has the weirdest list of 'premieres' for it that I ever saw. It's like they never bothered to actually show it in theaters in the US.

My sister has a membership at this chain called Massage Envy. That's all they do--therapeutic massages. We've been invited to visit for the weekend and use her guest card. :D
But WTF, they have a new policy that anyone under age 15 has to have a same-sex massage therapist, and have their massage in the same room as their guardian. That means I'll have to share the room with my son, and his male masseur. That's just beyond stupid.

A Facebook feud between two women who claimed to love the same prison inmate led to a high-speed chase and a crash that critically injured one of the rivals, killed her friend and left the second rival facing murder charges.
Torrie Emery was arraigned Friday in Pontiac's 50th District Court on multiple felonies, as friends of the dead woman were holding a car wash to pay for her funeral.
"It's unbelievable," Pontiac police Chief Valard S. Gross told The Associated Press as he described the escalating dispute that ended with Wednesday's deadly crash. "It's just crazy."
According to Gross, Emery, 23, and Danielle Booth, 20, had been feuding for some time, leading to an earlier police complaint. According to Emery's family, the dispute was over a 23-year-old man now serving time in a Michigan prison.
On Wednesday, Emery was driving when she saw Booth in the passenger seat of a car driven by Alesha Abernathy and started chasing her, Gross said. Gross had her 3-year-old daughter in the car with her.
Police Det. Paul McDougal, who was in an unmarked squad car, saw both vehicles rush by at speeds approaching 100 mph, Gross said. Before McDougal could reach them — and while a panicked Booth was on the phone with a police dispatcher — Abernathy ran a red light and plowed into a dump truck, knocking it onto its side but not injuring the truck's driver.
The crash killed Abernathy and critically injured Booth, who was in the intensive care unit Friday at POH Regional Medical Center in Pontiac. Emery and her daughter weren't hurt.
"How can you get that angry or that jealous, really, that you jeopardize the life of your 3-year-old?" Gross asked. "One person's stupidity, and look at the repercussions. It's just a ripple effect."
Emery appeared on video at her arraignment Friday on charges of second-degree murder, assault with intent to do great bodily harm and child abuse. She indicated she would look for a lawyer.
Judge Preston Thomas ordered her jailed without bond and set her preliminary examination for next Thursday.
"We apologize to the family about what happened," Emery's aunt, Tamika White, said after the hearing. "This Facebook stuff is just a mess. They're going on Facebook about a guy that neither one have — that's in the penitentiary."
"My sister didn't mean to kill anybody," said Traynea Emery, 19.
Across town in the parking lot of Pete's Coney Island restaurant, a group of Abernathy's friends were holding a car wash to raise money for the funeral they said Abernathy's family couldn't afford.
"She was the center of attention," said Brittany Carriti, 22, of Pontiac, a former classmate from Manley Alternative High School in Waterford. She and her friends had raised several hundred dollars by midday.
Abernathy was "always the one for whom the party started," said another ex-classmate, Chandra Tiernan, 23, of Waterford.
While Abernathy knew about the dispute between Booth and Emery, she wasn't involved in it, Tiernan said.
"She died over someone else's problem," Tiernan said.

The library is the place where you go to read - the bookstore is where you go to buy books.

I find those great big cups at the gas stations bizarre. I mean, wouldn't all the ice in your soda make it all melty and gross before you drank it all?
Quiktrip had a cool deal on those big cups recently where they only cost 35 cents.
Naturally, I bought one and drank it all day.

Theres always going to be demographic of people who try and read the books they haven't bought at a bookstore, and having people around seemingly enjoying books and presenting an inviting atmosphere likely makes some people want to buy books, and eventually even those people just reading them might buy one.Quote:

But a new project, SOS: Stress Outsourced, adds a dimension to social networking by transforming the metaphorical touching into an actual physical sensation: a massage delivered by a wired, motorized jacket.
The jacket, on display here at this year’s SIGGRAPH interactive technology and computer graphics, links to a website through a Wi-Fi chip in one of the sleeves.
When the wearer hits a button in the other sleeve to indicate he or she is feeling stressed, a social networking website notifies other network members. Communicating through a Wi-Fi-linked necktie, the other website members can decide whether to activate the jacket’s massage motors in sympathy.
“It’s much more relaxing because you feel a connection with people, not because the massage is so great,” said Byron Lahey, the wearable-technology coordinator at SIGGRAPH, who was not personally involved in the project.
After a response by a critical mass of users, the jacket, which has six massage motors, starts massaging the wearer. The whole process is anonymous, although the jacket does indicate from how far away the necktie wearers responded. Responses from within 10 miles of the jacket wearer trigger a spinal massage; responses from within the same country work the inner shoulder, and responses from other countries trigger an outer-shoulder massage.
Jacket wearers can log onto a website, see where everyone who responded is located and thank them.
By augmenting online relationships with real physical contact, the SOS project seeks to create tighter-knit online communities.
Designed by students from MIT’s media lab, the SOS system is still in the testing phase, and the attending website has yet to go live.
A vibrator that you could get people to show their love with would be so much more appropriate. I know that there are some that can be really remote controlled, but I think they are all limited to one person - and not nearly as simple as this could be.
