think "Wrong side of the tracks"
Also, black communities are commonly preyed on by government looking for cheap land with little push back. The history of this has become a local talking point around here because we keep finding black cemeteries under old government purchased/seized land.
Indeed its been a major problem in the past.
But what answers does Buttigieg have to address this in the future? The problem is known, what is the solution? The highways that were built and decades that have passed since are not going to be reversed, what investment is planned to address any problems that are there now?
There's a multi-trillion dollar infrastructure plan being advanced. Presumably there are non-racist ways of implementing it.

Can anyone confirm whether this is even a remotely accurate description of what is undoubtedly a stupid and cruel bill anyway?

Quite literally.
You'd think GOP leaders might at some point stop and think that if the Democrat's base gets vaccinated and theirs doesn't then the differential death toll might not exactly play in the GOPs favour at the next election.
Its not just deaths too. Many lives ruined by Long Covid and people left with "pre-existing conditions" as a result, or facing onerous medical bills as a result. Driving your own voters into medical bankruptcy is hardly productive to getting them to keep voting for you either.
In fairness, it is relatively in keeping with their frequent superficial commitment to libertarianism when it is absent morality components. They've always been rather opposed to public health vs private health. And also in keeping with the general Congress-critter's ignorance regarding science.
The trump whitehouse was pretty open about hoping covid would ravage urban areas, and the gop still has a weird fetish with not bucking positions of the old, and even more irrelevant, administration.
It's certainly not impossible, OG. I just still can't help but apply Hanlon's Razor to GOP-critters in most cases. Though in this case he IS for pushing it on "the most vulnerable" (i.e. elderly voters who generally swing conservative) so you might have a point. Or it could easily be both stupidity AND malice.
From the party of job creators:
And that was before all the promises were broken.Quote:
The state's Legislative Fiscal Bureau, a number-crunching agency similar to the federal Congressional Budget Office, calculated that it would take the state until 2043 to recoup the $3 billion handout, which was the largest such subsidy in Wisconsin history. Even if all 13,000 promised jobs went to Wisconsinites, the tab would be more than $230,000 per job created, the bureau found.
A separate analysis conducted by the Mercatus Center, a free market think tank based at George Mason University, found that the higher taxes needed to cover the cost of Foxconn's tax breaks would "decrease Wisconsin's long-run GDP by about $20 billion over the 15-year life of the handout."

A third of Americans (purportedly conservative people) are actively trying to make a case for autocracy.
Whereas over here people on the left, especially Europhile, have been the ones arguing against democracy for years now. Or as they like to call it whenever they lose a vote "populism".
The interesting thing is that if a conservative uses a racial slur they are rightfully condemned by other conservatives. However when mainstream liberals call a senator a variety of racial slurs that's a-ok. The double standards are as always obnoxious.
Nice try conflating democracy with rule by non-binding referenda.
Lewk, your side tried to overthrow the government and 3/4 of your congressmen voted to support that attempt. There's literally nothing the other side can do what would even come close. You're whining about someone jaywalking while your side commits mass murder.
Ah Loki please go on, continue to justify the use of racial slurs. Its very telling of your world view.
American conservatism will survive in an alternate reality:
