bombs in Boston?

After I told a friend here (in Illinois) yesterday that one of the suspects looked Arab and he said that he looked too white for one, I said he must be a Chechen. Who knew. :noob: Not the first time some individual Chechens tried to carry out terrorist acts against the West.

I'm not saying it was the wrong move, but did releasing the photos of these people spook them and lead to this shooting?

I've been thinking about that - maybe. It makes sense that the photos yesterday spooked them, so they realized they needed cash and transportation (why they stayed in Cambridge after the bombing initially is beyond me; maybe they genuinely thought they'd be able to get away with it). Hence, knock over a 7-11 and grab a car (after shooting an overly nosy cop doing his job). I'm not sure what their plan was, though - this city has been CRAWLING with heavily armed law enforcement all week, so I don't know why they thought they'd be able to get away after a robbery and carjacking (not to mention murder).

I assume the FBI weighed the pros and cons of this, deciding that the benefit of more information from the public would outweigh the costs of spooking the bombers. Whether this was a miscalculation is hard to know.

Normally those streets are packed.

Kind of reaffirms the view that their dedication to holy war wasn't equivalent to their ability to execute a coherent plan. In the end, they just got lucky. If the bombs don't go off, they're the laughing stock of the US, just like the Times Square "bomber".

I do appreciate the uncle's answer to the question 'why did they do this?' as 'because they're LOSERS!'

What terrorist attacks have Chechens attempted in the US? Maybe it's not common knowledge when attempts are thwarted, by any group. :hmm: I'm also curious what inside lead you have on the intentions, or any indoctrinization of these two immigrants. So far, officials are floating a lot of theories, including anti-Russian political motives that may not have anything to do with Islam.

wiggin, they've already announced that people at work don't have to "shelter in place" and can go home. Taxis are running again. If you're at home and want to go out, I suppose you could tell any cop who pulls you over that you're on your way home from work? But what would be the point if most everything is still closed?

Dozens if not hundreds had been killed fighting US forces (or our proxies) in Afghanistan and Yemen. Probably at least as many have been killed in Syria while fighting for jihadist groups.

As for this attack being anti-Russian, that's kat territory of idiocy here.

Well, they called off the search in Watertown and have lifted the stay at home order. It wasn't a curfew or anything anyways - it was just a strong request by the police and FBI, and nearly everyone in Boston complied because (1) safety and (2) we want them to catch this fucker. Regardless, I'm off to have dinner with friends.

You said "individual Chechans" had made terrorist attempts against "the west". Using bombs or "terrorist" tactics in war, in foreign nations, is different than your original statement. I simply asked you to clarify about attempts made in the US. Is that so difficult?

The original claim was "against the West" not "in the US"

Reports of gunfire and unconfirmed reports he's dead now.

Well, suspect #2 is in police custody. Alive, so we may actually get some insight in how he got to become a terrorist.

Someone needs to compile has many as these pictures as possible. Going through reddit and there are pictures of the police doing sweeps through homes, snipers taking up positions on top of sheds, it must have been insane.
