My cousin had her promotion today, first doctor in the family :) And the defense wasn't even completely boring!
So I'll buy paper copies of the good ones.
Some of them even multiple copies.
Do you realize I have at least 2 copies of every John Irving book (but one)? Even the ones that were originally my mothers hardcovers that I began him from - I bought paperback copies of before she said she was disposing of them and I took them.

Christ I remember fluid dynamics. One of the reasons I gave up my mechanical engineering degree in the second year was subjects like that, the nightmares they gave me, and the eventual dawning of the knowledge that I would never want a career that invoked such subjects.

I don't know if I should put this in the happy thread, but actually I felt a bit happy after I heard my youngest sister will divorce. It's not that her husband is a bad person, I just never felt any connection to him and I always felt like she could have done better. It was her decision to separate.
The building I live in has a "free" pile in the lobby where everyone puts the things that are still in good shape but they don't have a use for anymore. When I came back from the grocery store last evening, there was a dining room table and 2 chairs sitting in the pile. I immediately took my pork chops to my apartment, got a piece of paper and wrote "I will take this as soon as I find someone to help me move it" and signed it. I called the bar and got a friend to come help me. Munchkin now has a table! :) It's a really nice wooden table, very well constructed and solid, with 2 metal chairs! If I went to a store and bought one like it, with 4 chairs, I would pay about $200 for it. Sometimes this building rocks! :D
Parents just got me a mini laptop.
Plus i just bought a load of new sports gear as my old stuff was old.

A bit of a pain to navigate books not added through their store (and possibly those, too, but while I grabbed a couple of free ones that could be promising I don't have nearly the stack there), I think now that I have loaded a couple of thousand books on I may take most off and just keep it down to a couple of handfuls at a time.
