God damn it Nessie, now I've got to go back and play Fallout and MoM. And here I was thinking I was going to be okay with just revisiting XCom.

My character had Small frame, can you imagine how painful it was to loot the Glow? I left so much awesome stuff behind, and it's really not worth it to go back either after getting access to the BoS.
MoM was more of a mixed bag. I dominated as an 11-death wizard, I was doing okay as a mostly-Illusion wizard with a minor in Nature but god damn Tauron kept spamming awful Chaos globals and Merlin and I weren't able to keep up. I blame picking "strong" nodes in the game settings.
Ya, I was just paranoid. Turns out the game, when saved normally, will save under each user in Vista separately. It's only the QuickSave mode that is common. So, as long as I remember to full save before quitting, I won't lose data. Hubby already does this; it was just the quicksave that confused me. :) On to kill dragons!
I just tested Syndicate.
Don't buy that one. It's a port straight from console and by that I mean straight. Which means that in all those nice little quicktime events, you get the XBOX controller buttons flashing up ("Press B now!"), even if you only got a mouse and a keyboard...
... oh, and at the beginning of the game: "You've gained a new move. Press [Play Button from the XBOX controller] to view how to use it!" Not to mention that the keys you actually have to press are all over the keyboard - the "X button" is mapped to the F key, the "A button" is mapped to Return, for example.
Right. Straight to the trash bin that one goes.
Shame, I loved the original Bullfrog Syndicate. Second only to the original Colonization in the amount of time over many, many years that I spent playing that classic. I must have still been happy to play both of those a decade after they were released.
However I kind of suspected I'd be disappointed with this reboot. I've never been much of an FPSer anyway (the original was NOT an FPS).
Well, managed to fix that one. But the game itself is ... boring.
ohyesohyesohyesohyesohyesohyesohyes
and they're sticking with turn-based.
Awesome! :D
Now if Syndicate had half of that rather than dropping everything to just become a generic FPS I'd have bought it. I never played the original Xcom but that looks great.

;)
He might be talking about X-Com (no subtitle), which is an FPS set in the 50's. They're both still in development, but they're different games (confused me for a bit when I was hearing about both X-Com the FPS and X-Com the TBS). I'm actually looking forward to both of them.
What wraith said. Indeed confused about those. The fps looked interesting as well though because of thr command decisions you have to make mid-battle.
Also after terror upon the deep there have been many attempts to remake this, and they were all unsatisfactory. This one seems to be factory and a half
I'd like to point out now that I've played ME3 for some time, that the game itself brings up this point, namely in a conversation between a shuttle pilot and a member of your crew.
To paraphrase what the pilot says: "Yes, I know, we have this stealth technology. But it's only for the non-visible portion of light. Anyone simply looks up - we're not quite so stealthy anymore."
Semi-OT but gaming retailer Game looks like it is going bankrupt :(
Amanda's a typical girl and enjoy buying clothes because she's "nothing to wear" (having worn last months shopping once it seems to me), but this is one of the few stores that I actually enjoy going to, if they close then when we go shopping there'll be nothing fun left for me besides Starbucks or Costa Coffee.
I saw something about that earlier. They had to cancel most of their MS3 preorders because EA wouldn't agree to their crazy terms.
They've lost all EA products now I believe, and many other suppliers, because they've lost their credit.
Went into the store today and there was a really morbid atmosphere in there.
Got £10 in loyalty card points, will have to use them up. I suspect even if they go into administration one of the Trafford Centre stores will stay open for a while (they have 2, one right on top of the other for some reason).
Just finished the last puzzle in Professor Layton and the Curious Village. Nice story, good puzzles. Started it on the cruise so I could get used to playing through it without the temptation of the internet for answers. Did pretty good in that regard, but man...fuck that last puzzle, a slider puzzle that took 81 moves for a perfect solution. I was almost at 300 before I figured it out.
Game have officially gone into Administration.
Game group's administrators have announced the the immediate closure of over 200 stores and over 2000 redundancies. :(
Wondering if my loyalty points are worth much any more? [EDIT: Nope, the administrators have suspended both reward cards]
There's a Game and a Gamestation in Golden Square (Warrington's shopping centre), despite Gamestation being owned by Game. Suspect that'll be gone now, doubt Game will honour their points if it is (their loyalty cards are separate). Suspect only one Game will survive in Trafford at least.
The main issues Game has/had were:
1. Unable to complete with Amazon, supermarket and digital distribution on price
2. Economic downturn.
3. The longevity of their current generation of console hardware has left them without a new hardware related sales bump for quite a while now
4. General decline of the high street
5. Company was run by utter fucking retards
I mean, never mind the Game/Gamestop thing - those two did at least have somewhat different target demographics - when they brought Electronic Boutique 14 years ago they still didn't get around to consolidating everything. To this day you can find towns with two Games and a Gamestation on the same highstreet. Hey, let's pay rent on high street properties three times over for no reason! Also, their plan of focusing mainly on the most popular titles despite being a specialist retailer specifically so they could get pwn'd on price by the likes of Tesco may have been a bit suspect.
Basically, my sympathy begins and ends with the shop staff who've lost their jobs today.
I used them less and less as their PC shelves shrank and shrank to make room for more console shite and 2nd hand stuff, to the point where there were no more than a few PC titles taking up half a shelf, almost as an afterthought. Haven't been to one in a year or two now.
Have about a tenners worth of loyalty points I think.
Ever used CEX - the Computer Exchange? Haven't been for a couple of years but they seemed to be expanding, and used to have masses of PC titles the few times I went over the years. 2nd hand stuff only but I always found what I wanted there. Might be a London-only operation tho, not sure.
From what I've heard, they were sucky for the same reasons gamestop sucks, but they somehow managed to suck more. No idea how thats possible, but damn.

almost makes me want to give the game a try :haha:
:haha:
Physics engine needs a little tweaking.
Just a tiny bit, mind.
Fallout is free from GOG.com for the next ~48 hours.
Finally reserved my copy of Diablo III. After the discount from using my Target card and the discount for it being an item on my wedding registry, it came to only $86 after tax for the collector's edition. :D
Just finished Mass Effect 3. I'm not sure why everyone was so pissed about the ending. I would have liked more of an epilogue, but it certainly isn't inspiring internet rage in me.
To be perfectly honest I don't recall many games endings, I certainly never played a game because of its ending :bulb:. Once its over, its over. Frequently its just credits and I quit.
Ending that probably most made me smile was IIRC Warcraft III. I believe from memory there was a series of "outtakes" from the various characters while the credits rolled.
Bought a PS3 and Red Dead Redemption, because NHL 2012 wasn't available. Red dead Redemption does ruleth though!
