Can't believe NoKo scored on Brazil!
Yeah that was fantastic. One of the highlights so far. The other being, as you said, NZ bagging an equaliser in the last minute.
Interesting to see just how many long shots are going waaaay over. The ball or the altitude?
Classic case
That Bra-Nko match was the first I've been able to see live this tournament. Dull first half, but second much better. My judgement may be clouded by fact was at the b&b for first half, Lloyds bar for the second :)
But at both locations the vuvuzelas didn't bother me. After 2 min I tuned them out and didn't hear them until someone mentioned them. I have a much noisier and more annoying piece of equipment at work which I'm used to tuning out to be fair.
Edit: 2-1is a very good result for North Korea. They were never likely to beat Brazil and qualify first. By losing by only 1 goal, if Brazil can beat the other teams in their group by 2 or more then this is almost a point for North Korea for getting to Last 16
A lot of TV stations around the world have spent time and effort implementing filtration and tuning software to tune out the vuvuzelas after receiving complaints from viewers.
I'm not sure if ITV or BBC have done the same, but the Beeb did put an article up online about this.
During the Brazil NKO match, the droning wasn't nearly as annoying or loud as it has been for other matches, so either there were less of them in the stadium, or indeed there was filtration software in place tuning them out.
Agreed, good result for NKO. A good goal too.Quote:

Im pretty sure the tv channels have changed the sound balance to lessen the sound of the vuvuzelas. Its nowhere near as annoying now.
He's a fake. A fake I tell you. :sour:
36 Dutch women have been arrested by the South African police. Reason: Illegal wearing of dress by competing beer brand.
Since the WC is sponsored by the most horrible of beers, Budweiser, it's not allowed to have fanstuff made by other brands in the stadium. Here's the bavaria Dress being introduced during the friendly against Mexico.

Now I challenge you to find a beer brand anywhere on that dress. You can take as long as you like.
Against the Danes, about 30 women got kicked out because they were wearing a dress. 36 other women had donned Danish colours over their dress and did there little dance and strip routine during game Netherlands - Denmark. Budweiser VIPs in their VIP boxes were not amused, and now all 36 have been hauled out of their hotel room and have been arrested.

World Cup 2010: Fifa detains 36 female Holland fans for 'ambush marketing'
Christ alblightyQuote:
Thirty-six female Holland fans were thrown out of their country's game against Denmark at Soccer City after Fifa officials accused them of wearing orange mini-dresses to promote an unlicensed beer brand.
South African newspaper the Star said the women were accused of "ambush marketing". Fifa only allows promotional activity by firms that have official Fifa sponsor status.
A spokesman for the Bavaria beer company denied that the women had any links to their campaign, and said the group had been detained in a Fifa office for several hours. "It's a nice dress. Very fashionable," Peer Swinkels told the Star. "In my opinion, people should have the right to wear whatever they want.
"We launched the orange item on 30 April on the queen's birthday. The Dutch people are a little crazy about orange and we wear it on public holidays and events like the World Cup. There is no branding on the dresses. And Fifa don't have a monopoly over orange."
One of the women, Barbara Kastein, told the newspaper: "We were sitting near the front, making a lot of noise, and the cameras kept focusing on us. We were singing songs and having a good time. But in the second half, about 40 stewards surrounded us and forced us to leave the stadium. They pushed us up the stairs, and one of the girls fell."
Kastein said the women were questioned by Fifa, and then by the police. "The police came and kept on asking us the same questions over and over, asking if we worked for Bavaria. They said we were ambush-marketing and it was against the law in South Africa. They said we would be arrested and would stay in jail for six months. Girls were crying. It was bad.
"A police van took us back to our hotel and they wanted my passport. They made a copy and said they would investigate. They said they would sue me. All of this for wearing an orange dress."
Fifa told the Star there were no arrests and that "several young South African women were used by a large Dutch brewery as an instrument for an ambush-marketing campaign".

Facial expression of the assistant coach seconds before the end = priceless :)
What the Fuck?
It's illegal to market?
This seems to go around. In Germany we had supporters in their ünterhosen because they were wearing Bavaria (always Bavaria, they do know how to market) Lederhosen which were confiscated. According to QI a woman visiting Wimbledon had to give up the yogurt she was eating because it was another brand as the yogurt that sponsored Wimbledon.
Anyway, Spain - Swiss is up. I have found streaming coverage, last one of the favourites finally in action,
I was listening to the first 20mins of the match Ziggy, seems like it's a matter of time before Spain get a goal as they've had the majority of the possession.
So far impressed with the Swiss defence. Only Senderos was substituted because of an injury ... tackling a team mate?
Weird.
Sounds far-fetched to me, so I looked it up
All to do with television advertising rights. Pathetic.Quote:
Wimbledon fan has yoghurt confiscated in sponsorship row
It prides itself on being a haven of gentility in the increasingly money-driven world of professional tennis.
But it seems even the venerable All England Tennis Club has cravenly submitted to the real rulers of international sport - the sponsors. Wimbledon has banned spectators from bringing into the ground food or drink not manufactured by the firms which pay tens of millions of pounds to sponsor the tournament.
Even items as innocuous as a small pot of yoghurt or a milkshake are banned under the draconian regulation.
Officials claim that if a spectator were caught on a television camera drinking such an item, that would constitute advertising.
And the firms which paid millions of dollars to be the tournament's official sponsors would be none too pleased.
Marilyn Still, 57, a mother-of-two from Brighton is one of the many who had food items confiscated from them as they entered Wimbledon.
As she entered the ground, she was made to hand over two small pots of yoghurt and two small bottles of chocolate milkshake, both manufactured by Alpro.
Mrs Still said: "I couldn't believe it. The security guard looked through my bag and then just took them off me.
"I asked him why and he said they were banned because of advertising. It was ridiculous. I've got low blood sugar it's important for me to be able to take on sugar when I need to."
The All England Club yesterday confirmed that staff had been confiscating some food and drink as well as hats and other items of clothing bearing "obvious logos".
The spokesman conceded that at times the policing of that rule had been over-efficient, but added: "It is common policy across sports events to do this because commercial companies pay for the privilege to be associated with these events.
"It is not right that a potential competitor should be allowed to use the television coverage to push their own brand."
Mrs Still, on her third trip to Wimbledon, said: "I think of it as an extension of the Nanny State: these days everybody has got to do what they are told. "If I want to eat a yogurt, or drink a milkshake, what on earth is wrong with that? It's ridiculous."
The Wimbledon regulation is the latest example of the increasing dominance of commercial sponsors in international sport.
Three weeks ago thousands of Dutch football fans were forced to watch their team in their underpants at a World Cup match.
The fans had been wearing patriotic orange lederhosen emblazoned with the name of Dutch beer Bavaria.
Unfortunately for them Fifa - no doubt concerned for official tournament sponsor Budweiser - took umbrage and forced the fans to take the shorts off before they entered the stadium in Stuttgart.
Fifteen firms have paid millions of pounds to be Wimbledon's official sponsors. As well as being able to emblazen their logos around the site, only their products are available inside the grounds.

Time is running out, i really hope it stays like this with the Swiss winning. What a moment for the World Cup! :D
-edit-
Im watching the closing minutes at work on BBC iPlayer, my heart is racing .... loving it!
Spain hasn't lost since 2006, Swiss haven't had a goal against since 400 something minutes :D
They lost! AWESOME!
Wow.
I know a very happy Joker :)
Massive congrats to the Swiss, well played!
Holy bumfluff batman!
Awesome.
Swiss beat Spain! OUCH! Chile beat Honduras this am, so if Swiss and Chile play well, Spain could be ousted!
Tear now your just being silly!
But it would be awesome, whoop. :D
Huere geil!
You bet you do!
I can't believe it. I am very impressed by our defense, usually they can't keep up their concentration over the 90' but this time they did extremely well.
I can still remember losing against Spain in the US '94, this is the revenge, against a much better Spain.
Uruguay must be pleased with how their World Cup is going so far.
You know, when I watched the first half of south africa - uruguay, I didn't mind those things at all. It wasn't really a monotone humm anymore, but was blown in rythm and was louder at exciting moments, and you could still hear the fans shouting too. Maybe it's just the foreigners who don't know how to use a vuvuzela correctly? :p
Also: Budweiser
Bavaria

Meanwhile Argentina - South Korea, 55 minutes in, 2-1.
We need a feckin vuvuzela thread.

I actually wonder if there were any element of match-fixing in this...
*sips from a glass of French wine and smirks*
Adieu, les Blue. Very impressed how Salcido and Dos Santos played.
This afternoon we get to see if Germany can also play as impressive against some opposition. Should be good
I wish the ref would award both players a red card in these situations; 1 for the Nigerian for petulantly kicking out at an opposing player, and 1 for the Greek for appalling amateur dramatics.
France do seem a shade of their former world cup winning ways. Mexico played very well though - fun team to watch.
Germany will be interesting this afternoon indeed.
But mostly I'm just hoping we kick seven shades of shit out of the Algerians and thump them 5-0.
