Manhattanhenge
New Yorkers have witnessed an urban solar phenomenon, with the Sun setting in alignment with the city's skyscrapers and giving an effect fans say is reminiscent of Wiltshire's Stonehenge. Welcome to Manhattanhenge.
Twice every year amateur photographers gather in carefully-selected spots to set up tripods and wait to capture the ultimate sunset.
On Wednesday night at 2025 local time (0125 BST), the east-west lying streets of the city's famous grid system neatly framed the setting sun, creating golden glows New Yorkers rarely see.
During the phenomenon, the Sun appears to be nestled perfectly between the skyscraper corridors, illuminating the north and south sides of the streets.

:haha:
I hope you got to see "Big Sky" on starry nights during your visit to the US, Tim.
It was a full moon last night, quite big and shiny, hanging kinda low for a while before "moving" overhead. City lights tend to obscure that kind of view.
We have neither straight streets nor skyscrapers :(
Just mountains with holes

Which makes me wonder if we have anything without holes in it.
Manhattanhenge makes for a cool news title, but fuck everything about having to drive into something like that.
I tried to look for it earlier this week and didn't see anything. Maybe it only aligns with the blocks of trendy mid/downtown neighborhoods. :(
Shouldn't it work for all streets after 14th? You mean they aren't really that parallel?
They are...but maybe moving far south or north from midtown is enough to be just off-axis. Most of the photos of Manhattenhenge are on 23rd and 34th street, which are basically 800 meters apart.
Just before washing the car yesterday.

Jewy people driving German cars.
alcohol and cars don't mix Dread!
Thats definitely some Mike's Hard Lemonade
Yeah, the people whose driveway I borrowed had a giant stash of Mikes Hard Lemonade to get rid of. I hadn't had it in years, actually sorta liked it. Though it was pretty hot outside either way.
The car is overall really clean, but there were some small spots, stains, etc that needed to be washed out. Plus the windows were a bit dirty, that definitely made a big difference.
Lemonade + alcohol
Better known as Lolcohol.
Oh, I think we call them alcopops
Same here, alcopops.
Edit: Rather needed something to cheer me up. This did a good job. :)
