the like button could easily be seen as gathering information users consider private. we already covered how it works, for users that are logged in or out of the service (facebook even has a patent for this end), and it appears damn near everywhere, and you don't know until its to late.

Ya know, Draco....some of those 20 year olds "wanting everything" in 2011 are also Iraq or Afghanistan War Veterans. The 20 year olds in 1944 "giving everything" was due to it being a World War. Even civilians were "giving it their all" and nearly everything they had. In WWII there was less targeted weaponry and technology, and also less advanced field medicine. Soldiers died in droves. :(
In some ways, those who died in WWII had an easier way out, buried as heroes with medals, fighting something they could understand....especially after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. Compare that to 2011 vets who come home without arms or legs, burned beyond recognition, or with crippling PTSD, trying to find rehab healthcare....and also can't find a job or resume their roles in society. For a war they can't explain.

^^I know. I just agree with the general message of the photo, but I realise that there are those out there who have come back from places like Iraq, Afghanistan, with no job prospects. There was a more clear message and purpose in WWII, you knew what you were fighting for, it was either that or you die and let the enemy win, these days the purpose is about as clear as the river running through my city (this would be a good time to re-post that Huxley vs Orwell image).
Just hang on guys. I'm sure Dread will be along soon to point out what's exactly wrong with that picture.

It belonged to a local fellow named Jim Moran and it was returned to his home in Wagin, Western Australia this week, that may not seem so special since wallets do tend to get handed in when folks find them but this is worth noting.
Jim Moran (farmer & keen footballer in civilian life) was a WW2 pilot flying a mission to attack the German city of Leipzig when his aircraft was shot down over Netherlands coast on February 20, 1944. Jim's body was never found, yet the wallet was found months later by a fisherman in perfect condition and he kept it for all these years. The fisherman recently passed away and his family handed the wallet to the Texel Island Aviation Museum and thanks to some good luck and good will it arrived back home (with Jim's sister Kaye) after all these years.

Kaye was 11 when her big brother was killed, she has now learned much more about how and where he died and thanks to the Aviation Museum she has regained a family treasure along the way.
