So you're saying that I'm supposed to do nothing? :p
:)
Never heard of figwort, but St. John's Wort is cited as effective for mild depressive symptoms. And echinacea can be as effective as massive doses of Vitamin C or other anti-oxidants. Herbal remedies can work without side-effects, but they take more time than pharmaceuticals. WTF is the mercury iodide supposed to do?
If I were you, I'd call up the doctor and ask what medical condition he's treating with this homeopathic elixir, ie his official diagnosis. Best guess is....a blocked gland duct related to inflammation, maybe an allergy or a virus, but you have the right to know. :hmm:
You missed the part where all homeopathic "medicines" are strongly diluted.
Not all, just some. It's possible to find full-strength homeopathic elements as herbs or essential oils....but most Americans don't know how to use them. We rely more heavily on MDs and Pharmacists.
I think our CDC and FDA has dropped the ball on homeopathic and/or nutritional supplement studies. Too bad for consumers, huh.
Another guess....that your condition would likely subside over time. Just more time than you expect to spend. Self eliminating symptoms are often directly tied to modern culture and Time (and expectations).
Most headaches can be overcome by lying down in a dark and quiet room, with a cold compress to the forehead, some liquid hydration of tea or soup broth. But that takes time. Time away from interaction, work, production, stimulus.
Insomnia can be overcome by treating underlying stressors, but that also takes time. Hell, it's easier to prevent international time-zone sleep-deprivation transitions during the plane flight, with Ambien, than let a two-day response take its natural course. Time is money, see.
Holy crap, the pope's gonna resign.
I thought they usually die in office?
Saw that. Never thought I'd live to see that. :bored:
Wow, that came out of nowhere. Why is some media calling it "abdication"?
..because that's what it is?
Guess God screwed that one up, huh.
If only the Ayatollah took his lead. :o Then they can spend a happy retirement together.
I'm assuming he is doing it now so that they can get a new guy in before easter.
He was really old to begin with, almost as if they were planning for a short term pope from the getgo. Something that would possibly help contain the sex/abuse scandals in the history books.
As in, you're supposed to dilute those yourself? Because the very basis of homeopathy is the idea that water "remembers" whatever chemical it once contained after it is diluted to a sufficient degree - and generally, the more diluted it is, the stronger its effect, which is supposed to be pretty much the exact opposite of what the full-strength ingredient would cause.
Sadly, it is established that water has rather short memory, IIRC, less than a nanosecond... Which is the first entry on the long, long list of problems with "theory of homeopathy".
Over here, the biggest problem is that terms "herbal remedies" and "homeopathic medicine" are used interchangeably by pharmacists. And unlike homeopathic preparations, herbal remedies actually contain active ingredients, and have proven to be effective enough in many cases (I'm not talking about "a root of a plant used by Chinese for thousands of years to gain supernatural powers" sort of hebal mixtures here, of course). So, sometimes people end up buying some homeopathic crap just because they don't know what the term actually means.

On the left, the officially filed police mugshot courtesy of the Greek police force. Totally not shopped.
There are more like it. Also totally not shopped.

Did the IOC give up on even pretending that its decisions aren't made purely on the basis of bribes?
There's been this storm in a teacup in the UK going on about horse meat being sold as beef. Which is a bit odd since probably you're better off eating the meat of a horse than the meat of a cow, but I guess every country needs to have its food oddities. But today it got real funny; because of course the EU is to blame for it again. As it turns out the EU forbade UK meatprocessors selling a product that was basically offal as beef in the food industry. And that of course, naturally, forced producers of food for the UK market to fraudulently sell horse meat to their consumers. This according to some chap who was working for the Food Standards Agency. One has to wonder what standards they were about in the first place. :D

You may be better off, but horse meat is cheaper than beef so you're being ripped off.
And they tend to blame everything, even non existing things on the EU in certain newspapers, so this can't be a surprise, can it?
Also can't help but to be reminded of this: :p

Regarding standards.....the stranded Carnival cruise ship is limping its way into port, with help of several tug boats.
Hard to believe the passengers were given free booze for several hours, as their food and water spoiled, then told to defecate into plastic baggies, when they didn't have any way to clean their hands. Sounds like the biggest WTF ever.
Loki posts links without comment. Frequently. WTF?
I don't think there's more appropriate comment to that link than :bulb: :p
There was a Frito-Lay competition to design the next best flavored potato chip. They were offering $1,000,000 to the person with the best recipe idea. My kids and I had some fun throwing around potato chip concepts, wondering if our ideas wouldn't be duplicated by millions of others, and how the finalists would be chosen.
Well, the finalists have been chosen. I've tried the sriracha (hot sauce) chips, and they're quite good. Like a BBQ chip with a zing. The cheesy garlic bread sounds interesting and will be our next taste test. But the chicken and waffles flavoring is a big WTF.
We didn't like the cheesy garlic.
Garlic bread needs to be soft and hot, the chips are neither. and the flavoring didn't work well, like you could tell it was there, but not in the right amounts.
I'm going with chicken and waffles next.

Was going to put this in the happy thread, cause its hilariously awesome. Then I realized how depressing it was:
