Adjust to three deaths, 11 gravely injured, about 60 light injuries, and that last group apparently contains (at least) two people I know. Hopefully they are okay... Apparently a lot of trees were knocked down, a sound tower collapsed, one (thankfully one of the smaller ones) tent completely collapsed and a bigger tent partially.

Thanks Hazir. I have been sleeping fine. It's hard to not look at the burden as a mountain. When I feel like this it's hard, because in the time it takes to do one job, I get three more LOL. I am also faced with losing two days work for a trade show, and my sisters wedding. These are my productive days. I feel a little better, but it's just been a rough time with lack of motivation.Quote:

There's a goddamm groundhog in my front yard, burrowing under the foundation shrubs and making a mess of things. He's a brazen little fucker, too. Jumps right up on the living room window ledge (a bow window about 18 inches from the ground) and stares right at us through the glass. He laughs at the cats--in his groundhog voice, stands on his haunches and rubs his front paw/claws together, nostrils and whiskers twitching--knowing they can't reach him. Poor things are both curious and scared to death by the rodent and have no idea what to do. They bat at the window and fluff their spinal and tail fur up double size for a minute, then walk away to take a nap.
Yesterday afternoon, when we spotted Mr. Groundhog up at the window, one of the cats was stretched out on the inside window sill, sleeping away in the sun. Ho Hum. :haha: :sour:

Yeah, videos are quite insane, almost hurricane like wind gusts (news says 130km/h), combined with big hail and within 10 minutes there was 5-10 cm of water everywhere. Quite a storm..Quote:

GGT, here it wasn't the (huge) outside stage that collapsed, which to be honest also looks a lot more rigid than the one in that video. Two tents collapsed, and from what I've heard one death was because of a tree, one because of a tower that fell on the camping, and one was hit by a truss in one of the collapsing tents. The bigass outside stages were still intact.
Emergency services and organization seem to have responded well, so that's good :up: though I hear that information to the people there was lacking, but I guess the priority was at rescuing and helping the wounded.
If I spent Saturday drinking and Sunday working with evo-devo for 10 hours, will YHWH smite me? Hluuuurgh

Well, apparently not just the Norwegians know how to overstate deathtolls - the number for the storm at that festival in Belgium was corrected from 5 to 4. Though the guy did actually die in the hospital, he wasn't from the festival but in the heat of the moment was counted as if he was.

I turned 40 last month, which in itself didn't phase me but as if turning 40 flicked a switch in my biological clock, my eyesight (which has always been perfect) is suddenly causing me problems. When I'm tired I get blurred vision and when driving at night I occasionally get something like double vision, I will be off to get my eyes tested as soon as I can but I'm not really looking forward to the prospect of having to wear glasses for the first time in my life. I know I'll break them, lose them and buy a new pair before finding the ones I lost again because that seems to be what all old farts do wth their fucking seeing eye goggles!
As if the prospect of needing a guide dog wasn't bad enough I've been suffering from a quite painful condition which has now been diagnosed as "golfers elbow" - which has nothing to do with playing golf and everything to do with making me feel old, blind and sore all at once. I have a sneaking suspicion it is caused by clicking the mouse buttons like a raving lunatic while playing lame-arse games like Titan Quest.
I should know better at my age. :(
First day of school today. Yeah, I'm supposed to be happy, but the kids come home before I get off of work, so the only change I'm seeing is having to get up earlier so they can catch the bus.
Don't you have a day off during the week when they'll be off at school, though?
I did a happy dance on back-to-school day.
Its random, I usually work 2-3 weekend days a month. 1 night shift a week.
it was a little different in the summer because of programming of everyone running off on vacation.

Weather here is shitty too. Second time within a week that the meteorological institute issued a code orange for my province. Major thunderstorm, and half the roads are flooded. When I woke up at 10AM I thought my clock was wrong, because it was still dark in my room due to the clouds.
Now I probably sound like a whiny teenager when I say that the weather this summer was the worst weather ever, but apparently it officially is the worst weather in a summer ever. FFS, I live close to the beach and I've only been there once this summer because it was raining all the time. The weather this summer officially sucks.

BTW, this is the storm on that festival last week, skip to around 2 minutes to see how strong it was. That's not really the kind of wind we are used to around here.. And I think that tower falling in the background at 2.00 is probably what killed one person :(

Reminds me of Bayshore, the road I take into and out of downtown. This is a video someone uploaded on youtube from last month. Rain has already stopped so the water level is already going down, but everyone gets the idea; there is also a raised median in the middle of this road somewhere. Last friday I was at a bar in Istanbul, where I met somebody 26 years old, tall, muscular, handsome (and just so that there be no mistakes about the situation, rich, significantly richer than I). CmdrTaco, the founder of Slashdot has resigned. :( Slashdot was one of the first websites I stumbled across on the internet once I discovered there was more here than cheatcodes and walkthroughs, and even with sites like Digg and Reddit I always kept going back to /. I remember when sites would love and fear the /. effect. How the site has stayed true to its focus through all these years, even as the internet around it changed so drastically. Without him at the helm, I fear for what will come :(

The organization I rent from is rather bureaucratic and slow, and they usually send the final bill for the service costs for the year before in June, e.g. gas, water, electricity, etc., and depending on whether your advance was more or less you get paid back, or have to pay extra. It's usually small amounts.
So this year we did not get any final bill whatsoever, so my neighbour started calling them. The guy he needed wasn't there, he'd be called back (of course he wasn't), he'd be emailed back (of course he wasn't). Then we all get a letter saying we have €475 in late payments, though we never had a bill (so naturally did not pay anything). Neighbour calls again, and finally he finds out that apparently there was something wrong with our calculation, they thought it was too high so they did not send the bill yet, but it was in the system so we got the reminder. So it has taken them 8 months to figure out what is wrong with it, but they still haven't managed to...
Not to mention that there has to be something wrong, because €470 extra means that we'd have used more than 50% more electricity, water, and gas in one year, while at the same time for 4 months there were 3 people less in this house, and one of the biggest users left early in the year.
Areas within 2 miles of my NY residence are getting evacuated. :bored:
I'm happy to live on top of a hill, far enough from the Chesapeake Bay and Susquehanna River that I hopefully won't have to deal with Irene's flash flooding. At least if it doesn't muck up our reservoir water company, and all our Army Corps of Engineers constructed dams and drainage systems work properly. We do have creeks and tributaries that wind through every boro, town and city, though. We have tons of low-water and low-level "dams" that routinely fail after heavy rains, sucking people and CARS into their under tow.
