Sometimes I think the NHS is badly flawed, then I look across the Atlantic and think why mess with a good thing.
I don't think it's fair to compare yourself to Mexico.
The US system is deeply broken, and everyone knows it. But you don't see anyone holding church ceremonies where a national bureaucracy is given a platform to pitch itself.
Did anyone else catch this amazing piece of wordplay? It's very subtle and clever, so let me explain it to you. Nazi is actually short for national socialist, which is something that not a lot of people know. What Dread has done here, right, is he's taken the fact that the NHS is both nationalized and socialist and put them together to imply the NHS is somehow a nazi thing, even though that makes absolutely no sense. And you think you can call him out for it, but you can because he said nationalized, not national. He's in the clear. So what you gonna say now, liberal? You can't say anything. You're in intellectual checkmate.Quote:
nationalized socialist
Owning the libs, ladies and gentlemen, owning the libs.
Next Up: Obama's middle name was Hussein, which is the same as in Saddam Hussein. Checkmate again, libs.
I should hope not given how appalling the US system is. It is a remarkable statement of either the NHS's efficiency or the US inefficiency that the NHS costs less per capita than what American taxpayers pay for healthcare. Without considering how much private money is needed in the US system on top of tax money and you still don't have universal healthcare. Incredible really.
Healthcare in the UK costs British taxpayers less than what healthcare in the USA costs American taxpayers. Yet you still need corporate and private payments and get worse results and people without coverage.
Every system has problems but there's next to nothing about this particular matter that has any meaningful casual relationship with the NHS being publicly funded, while the defining characteristics of the US healthcare system is clearly casually related to a number of other causes of unnecessary deaths, such as those that can be ascribed to the opioid epidemic.
I wasn't Godwinning the NHS :weird:
I actually disagree. The characteristic of state funding means that some patients, especially older and terminal patients, are a distinct taxpayer cost that the bureaucracy will not likely recoup versus successfully treating a younger or treatable patient to return to the pool of taxpayers. State-funded medicine provides an incentive for some form euthanasia.
Which isn't to say we shouldn't be having a frank and open conversation about end-of-life costs and terminal care, regardless of health systems. Our aging societies will need to wrestle with that one quite a bit.
Oh god, now he's doing death panels. What is this, 2011?
Dread wasn't this deranged and lewk like in 2011.
He also kind of ignores that the US already has those death panels. They're called: "Being poor".
Dread; you most definetely were. And you were trumped.
Otherwise; yes, it's ridiculous to celebrate the NHS the way the Brits are doing it. But then again we should be used to that lot turning something 'national' into 'involuntary'.
