For all the whining about polls, they were spot on in this case. No reason to think they'll be wrong in the second round (where Macron wields a 30% advantage).
Interesting how little attention was given to the fact that his wife is 24 years his senior.
Presumably because he didn't pay her $800k to do nothing. Also, France.
That would be her mix of xenophobic and dirigiste policies. Fascism is not a particular policy but a specific mix of policies.
Mind you, I am not one to use the label fascist easily.
Let the apologetics begin.

Also, LOL at the current Graunian result, Hamon + Melenchon combined would've been 25+ points. Can we get a sad trombone in here :D
Breitbart says she's cool. That means she can't be a fascist.
Most of the disenchanted center-left went for Macron.
The trump subreddits are full of ignorant bandwagoners who support le pen solely to show they aren't sexist. Some of their top threads start and stop with that sigle claim.
The promise to repress a minority seems like a great reason to support a political candidate.
Yes, thankfully.
Surprise surprise, M. Le Pen suddenly never advocated leaving the euro.
Hasn't she always been circumspect about that trying to appeal to both sides. Wouldn't trust her as far as I could throw her. But that's the least of what's wrong with the fascist.
Seems like Randy 's fascist wet dream is well and truly over.
Relieved, but they're making steady progress every election. Their counterparts in Scandinavia and in Eastern Europe are likely to see greater electoral success. Granted that wouldn't be as harmful to the EU as if France had succumbed but their increasing strength will make the EU more ineffective for every year and may provoke counter-productive responses from Brussels.
Nevertheless, woohoo :downcast:
She underperformed her polls by about 10%, as have far right parties in a bunch of recent European elections. Too much of a stretch to call it a backlash against Trump.
She was polling at 38%. She currently has 38.7%.

Let's not forget she underperformed with a relatively low turnout. To me it rather seems that at least she and her party are finished for the time being. If Macron does a halfway decent job we may never heave to worry about the likes of here again in this century.
Well, America elected a fascist shit-wizard and France didn't. That makes America a worse country than France. That's political science, and you can't argue with it.
Fuck off and stop trolling. I always supported first Fillon and then Macron, I oppose fascism and find the fact that a third of one of our nearest neighbouring nation voted for a fascist scary. I hope and expect fascists will get less than 0.1% of the vote here next month.
Fully agreed and that's a very mature post, well done. Its scary how much fascism is rearing its ugly, ugly head on the continent and that was one of my reasons for wanting to leave. I don't want to import fascist policies from fascist electors in France or Austria or Hungary etc
