Is the character's first name Indiana, then? I've never watched one of these, but I would think that is just a nickname, so why couldn't Indiana Joan be used as one instead? I know some men who are spoken to and referred to by their peergroup by surname, but perhaps "Joan" is fond of her given name and is still from Indiana?

I could understand a different name if it were a name in a language where you have male and female forms. But in English and with this name it makes no sense whatsoever.

Jones is his surname, his father (portrayed by Sean Connery) is Henry Jones.

So, if they're going to make a remake of Jessica Jones with a woman in the lead.... oh..

Industry convention for this gimmick is to replace "Jones" with "Moans" and make a porn parody.
