Yes you are allowed to say that. It just comes accross as nasty if you say it about an actual person's buys :)

Really. Certain people here have criticized others' hair cuts, eye glasses, music or food choices, socks with sandals, body hair, liking nascar or certain sports, etc. All sorts of personal preferences. Rand knows I'm not being "nasty" about his furniture, snobby probably. He also knows I wish him well and am glad he's excited about his new house. :coffee:
Why does it have to be so difficult to switch to the new phone? Why can't it pull all the stuff off of the old phone, unplug it, plug in the new phone, and install it all? How is that difficult?
Instead, I had to update the old phone, which first does a backup, then restores the phone to factory defaults, then reinstalls everything, only for me to unplug it, plug in the new phone, which also requires an update, and we go through this all over again.
WHY?!?!
Fucking Apple!
Well all these more frequent updates are annoying everybody. You can't switch on your PC with some essential update wating to be installled.
Oh, and of course Apple is from the Devil, but you got lured in by the shiny screen didn't you?
For some reason I have never owned a single Apple product and believe it or not I don't seem to have suffered any great loss by not being one of their customers.
My groove is a little messy since I paid a lot of money to have some work done on my motorcycle and I am not satisfied with the work done, have returned twice to solve the problem and yet the problem remains. I actually could have done the work myself but decided to pay an "expert" to avoid any problems, ironically it now looks like I will have to fix it myself.
Icecream place; they sell one flavour. Choices are small, medium or large. On average you wait 5 minutes in line before you can place your order and pay. Then typically you get your cone within 10 seconds after handing over your token. Then you are expected to leave the place and enjoy your icecream outside. Inside there is only room for the line of people who are still waiting to order and the line of people leaving the place again.
Then, today, I wanted one of their wonderful cones. Get in line. Two women in front of me stand in line, facing a menu telling them what the options are (small medium large) and what they cost. Still they manage to discuss what to choose for over 2 minutes, holding up the line behind them and making the servers wait emptyhanded.
How difficult can it be to make up your mind about something that basic during the time you are waiting ?
Amanda got me three new hamsters, so cute. The Syrian I previously had, Spam, could only live alone (Syrian's are not allowed to live with another) but these are dwarf hamsters, tiny things and can live together so long as they're brought up together. Three little ones very cute, named them Pepe (brown has a black stripe down his back, reminded me of Pepe Le Pew), Mocha (lighter brown and consistent, reminded me of coffee) and a pure white albino one Amanda named Mojo.
Tonight though just about a week after we got them Amanda said she was concerned she hadn't Mojo today (they kind of bury themselves underneath the wood shavings). Had to take the cage apart in order to find his body :(. RIP Mojo :(
I have this one email adress from a (charity, cultural) organization I used to work for, and am still on the board of advisors of. Because I had a lot of contacts in the cultural world while working there, that email address is still used by some companies. Last week I got, as a relation, an invite to a pretty awesome party celebrating the 15 year anniversary of a pop magazine and a radio station. A bunch of cool bands and DJs in a club in Amsterdam. Normal price is €15 + membership, I'd get in for free plus some extra stuff before the doors open. All I have to do is reply on that email to get on the guest list.
Problem is, this email is linked to a login on the network at the office of the organization. It has to be renewed every year, as a part of the security (and to keep people who have a log in but are no longer active out of our files). To renew it you have to physically log on to the network in the office. My login expired this weekend, which means I cannot access the email and get in touch to get my name on the guest list. And I have to reply before tomorrow noon, and it won't be easy to drop by that office before noon...
edit: and these bands are playing
*wants to go*
Several automated calls a day from local Republican politicians reminding us to get out and vote in the local Primaries or November. The style is always the same, the caller id info will either be shown as blocked, private, or unavailable, and the resulting message left will be telling us about how the politician is "against the Liberal agenda", whatever this means, I don't know, and also includes a few negative comments about how Liberals or Democrats are ruining the Town/County/State/Country, or some negative comments about their opponent, with the best one so far being "He voted against Reagan more than 50% of the time." ...
:bored:
Calls I could deal with. Its the door to door guys that set off the dogs and cause me to stop whatever I'm doing that are getting annoying. Early as 7 am so far. All of them for that idiot hypocrite republican Rick Scott.
No disrespect to transgenders intended, but the last sentence there made me chuckle for some reason.

Effete urbanite family? Sounds serious with this woman, Dread! :hmm:
My ex only invited our youngest son to meet his fiance's family on Sunday brunch. May be just as well, the elder son doesn't like her much. Not only did she lie about her age, it turns out she's got a grandchild two years younger than our youngest son.
I have no disrespect either for transgenders or even transvestite's, but the last line was deliberate ;) :)
Marcus is just an attention whore though. Dirty blond hair, needing a shave and just in no way could ever resemble a woman. The least he could do if he really wanted to dress as a woman is is get some shampoo and not have a beard.
GGT, not everyone has the option of waiting for "Grandma" to die and leave you the bed. Yes, I realize you bought your brass frame, but if what's in the budget is the matched set, you get that! I am pretty lucky really. The Thing gave me a bed and a chair, I had my computer desk and chair, and we have a free pile here. So far I got a dining room table with 2 chairs, a coffee table, and a really awesome chair that reminds me of one my Dad gave me years ago that got lost in one of my many moves! At different times in my life I have slept on the floor (hardwood), on a mattress on the floor, and in a fucking recliner! Hell, at any of those times I would have loved a bed like the one Rand got!
Aside from the various aches, pains and kinks associated with climbing all over the engine and cab of The Friend's semi on Friday, I am in a pretty good mood! Of course, I have the usual bitches about being broke and bored, but all in all it's a pretty good day!
Now it's about maxing out the budget!? Style disagreements aside, that sounds cavalier to me. Especially for a young couple outfitting their first home. But I'm old, and it used to be kinda fun to have an empty living room with nothing but some pillows to sit on, and crates for end tables, while we furnished the place bit by bit.Quote:
...if what's in the budget is the matched set, you get that!...
AHA! So, they should either sleep on the floor and make sure they have a place for their clothes, or they should get a bed and "hang" their clothes on the floor? If you need both at the same time, you go with what the budget allows, which is not always what you would really prefer to have!
If you like a certain style, I don't think there is a problem with getting a matching set. My mother has a bedroom suite from her grandmother, that I slept on for many years when I lived at home. I believe it is oak stained a dark walnut color. It's beautiful.
My bedroom furniture happens to match now because my husband built everything but the bedframe. He's actually going to build a matching headboard when he has time. But he built the dresser, nighttables, and a bookcase out of Honduran Mahogany, MDF (for interior pieces like drawers), and iron hardware.
Nothing else in our house really matches though. We can't decide on a style so everything sort of works in its own mismatched way.
EDIT: And if you have the money then you might as well furnish a home. We've always done piece by piece just because we didn't have the cash, or mostly because most of our wood furniture has been built by hubby, so took time.
I remember one of the girls in my street when I was a kid, she was really embarrassed because her parents bought her a Queen Anne bedroom suite and it wasn't what she considered "cool".
All I had was a crappy old steel frame, spring & mesh bed with a mattress on it, a "burnt orange" coloured chest of draws and the space under my crappy spring & mesh bed for storing all my worldy possessions. None of that fancy shit for me, apparently.
A matching set of furniture sounded pretty fucking "Hollywood" to me at the time. :(
Incompetent and lazy tech people  I want summary executions   Fucking retards.
Wikipedia doesn't work - just when you need it.
That's the second component (after opinions of style). "Afford" is subjective, and everyone has different ideas of how to budget or prioritize want vs need. At the risk of "offending" someone, IMO it's never wise to take vacations, buy a new house, a new car, and rooms full of furniture....without also saving for a rainy day and retirement, too. I don't care how old/young someone is, or what a great and secure job they claim to have.
I'm just frugal and conservative that way, and looking at the high numbers of people who have zero savings and basically live paycheck to paycheck....plus this recession....it's more important than ever to distinguish between want and need. That's all. :)
I never live "payday to payday" and can afford a rainy day.
In fact that's how I can afford to buy a whole set of furniture in one day - don't earn that much in one pay clearly so that's come from saving up.
I didn't mean just you, Rand. ;) One of my past-times is looking at real estate on-line. I go to Trulia.com and type in random states, to see the number of foreclosures and short sales. The short sales often have video tours or slideshows, like Open Houses. It's sad to see the number of young families whose home is outfitted with the big screen tv, the matching furniture sets, duded out nurseries, fancy curtains and art work, the new car in the driveway....thousands of dollars spent on STUFF, but they can't pay their mortgage and have to do a short sale.
:(
Not looking forward to 4 hours of Chemistry Lab...
What difference does it make if people had furniture that didn't match but couldn't pay their mortgage.
I recall a good rule of thumb being that a mortgage should be upto 4 times annual income. Our mortgage will be less than twice our combined annual income.
Yes, but what if you both lose your jobs at the same time and can't find new ones ever. Won't you regret having furniture instead of living like a squatter then?
