    Default Booze

    Do you make your own?

    Have you ever?

    Would you like to?

I do not personally, but a friend mine does brew his own cider. It's great stuff with plenty of "kick" to it.

I spent a few years brewing my own beer at home, it was a largely social thing really but the 300 odd bottles of beer we had in circulation came in handy as a social lubricant.

I have an acquaintance with his own distillery - which is not strictly legal - but the moonshine he makes is not for the faint hearted.

Over here it is very popular to make your own beer/cider at a micro-brewery (UbrewIt) where you basically brew up your own booze to make almost any style of beer/cider and use their facilities. It works out about 1/2 the price of buying the booze. They even have the options for canning your beer now!

When going to parties the girlfriend and I usually make up some Lemonchello which always goes down well.

Buy a cheap bottle of vodka, squeeze 8 lemons and grate the zest too, dissolve some sugar into 1/4 of the vodka over some heat, then add the rest of the vodka and lemon juice & zest. Leave it so sit for 30 mins then strain the Lemonchello from the bits of zest.

I have a friend that makes his own honey mead. And another that makes Kahlua using cheap vodka.

One of my coworkers tried brewing his own beer, but was a dummy and left the glass bottle he was letting it gas off the carbon dioxide inear the window, and it blew up from the excess heat causing the yeast to go nuts. He said it was all over the ceiling, walls, floors, everything!

At high school we made banana wine once, and I'm planning to make grape wine later this year with a friend. A while back I had some serbian home made liquor that was really tasty, but also extremely strong Forgot what it was called though

My dad once created an abortion of an abomination while trying to make his own booze. Several years later, put it in the garden with the lid ajar. One summer later, the bloody stuff had been the scene of some kind of insect holocaust. There was a layer about 6 inches deep of dead insects and more we still hanging about.

Since then, ive been a bit shy of homebrews...
"Son," he said without preamble, "never trust a man who doesn't drink, because he's probably a self-righteous sort, a man who thinks he knows right from wrong all the time. Some of them are good men, but in the name of goodness, they cause most of the suffering in the world. They're the judges, the meddlers. And, son, never trust a man who drinks but refuses to get drunk. They're usually afraid of something deep down inside, either that they're a coward or a fool or mean and violent. You can't trust a man who's afraid of himself. But sometimes, son, you can trust a man who occasionally kneels before a toilet. The chances are that he is learning something about humility and his natural human foolishness, about how to survive himself. It's damned hard for a man to take himself too seriously when he's heaving his guts into a dirty toilet bowl.
