Thread: The "new" facebook

    Default The "new" facebook

So, suppose someone writes an article for a tech blog featuring the words "facebook" and login" as the title.

Suppose this article gets read and linked to a fair bit, and gets a good google page rank.

Now, suppose you're one of those people who likes to log on to face book by typing "facebook" and "login" to google and clicking the first link.

(maybe you see where this is going)

Now, ok, supposed you were a complete and total idiot.

    What do you think happens?

    Answer:

Be advised that many of the comments are, in fact, comedy gold.

The light that once I thought compassion still casting shadows in your action
The words you shared were cold transactions that bring me to curse what you've done
When you're up there absorbed in greatness with such success you've grown complacent
I hope you scorch your many faces when you fly too close to the sun

The article is ranked #2 on google.

    Facebook login is #1.

I guess enough dumb people have figured it out by now.

    Short version:

    1) Article with words "facebook" and "login" in title gets high pagerank for search terms "facebook login"
    2) Idiots who access facebook by typing facebook login into google click on the page and assume they're on facebook which has undergone some kind redesign
    3) Idiots complain bitterly in the comments, claiming the new layout "sucks" and "how do i login" and "bring back the old facebook"
    4) Hilarity ensues.

I'm still not convinced this isn't a 4chan prank, mind.

OIC, I guess the main reason why I didn't get it was that if I type in facebook login this article comes in fifth place or so.

No, wait. I can't figure out why I should be mad at you for that. But I am.

I saw this a few days ago, the blog never reached the #1 spot, but it did make it into the top 5.

I like how one of the solutions posted in the comments by one of the facebook users is to "search via Bing, and ignore Google until they fix their mistake".

Is it really that fucking hard to type facebook.com into the address bar? This seems like the peak of stupidity and laziness combined...

    ...or use a bookmark.

Edit: No, scratch that, we'd have at least a few thousand utter morons sticking physical bookmarks into their computer.
