Well, there is the rule of law and then there is questioning the legitimacy of the law. If this is the way the law works, then there is a good reason to have a serious close look at the law in question.

15 year old knows right and wrong. If a 15 year old murdered one of your family member's what would your thoughts on the matter be? This was a fucking jihadist.
They settled - I would of loved to see a jury see this trial. I'm not familiar with the laws in Canada and America for this type of situation but I'm hoping the American judgement against him lets the family of his victims get all of this settlement.
Yes, let's hope for juries to ignore laws when those laws are unpopular.
And a ~30-year-old should know something about the importance of the rule of law.

Law is one of the twin pillars that creates the very purpose of government. Freedom is good - we purposefully limit the freedom (taxation, laws etc) to protect ourselves from internal threats. The second pillar is national defense IE protection from external threats. These are the primary purposes of having a nation.
Jury nullification is a legitimate strategy. No different than in yesteryear of pleading with the king for mercy even though death is a customary sentence.
I can think of no greater internal threat than a government that flaunts the law in order to appease the bloodthirsty masses.

Except trial in the court of law IS the law. There was no requirement to settle and yet they did.
He was a child soldier in a fucking war zone. Have you thought he might have had some of his family murdered?
The Geneva Conventions should apply to regular soldiers let alone children!
