Default Searching for old Atari CC signature "make every word count" quote.

I cannot remember which member had the quote as his signature, but it went something along the lines of "just like a machine has no extra parts, a sentence should consist of no words that does not need to be there". I found it deeply inspirational at the time, and could now use it in order to describe the design of a website I'm making.

If anyone would be so kind to recall the member or the entire quote even, that would be greatly appreciated.

Might be that smartiepants Aimless (Minxypoo). I remember his sig because it had the word "Succinct" in it. I love that word
I could have had class. I could have been a contender.
I could have been somebody. Instead of a bum
    Which is what I am

    I aim at the stars
    But sometimes I hit London

Thanks, all I had to do was google his name together with Atari Community Chat. The archive is still there, fortunately.

"Vigorous writing is concise. A sentence should contain no unnecessary words, a paragraph no unnecessary sentences, for the same reason that a drawing should have no unnecessary lines and a machine no unnecessary parts. This requires not that the writer make all sentences short or avoid all detail and treat subjects only in outline, but that every word tell. "

So it didn't have succinct in it.

Cool. My memory improved his signature.

Strangely, the writer fails to adhere to his own advice. The message can be summed up as "brevity is the soul of wit." I'd use the shorter quote if I were you.

I always said that quote was way too wordy.
"Son," he said without preamble, "never trust a man who doesn't drink, because he's probably a self-righteous sort, a man who thinks he knows right from wrong all the time. Some of them are good men, but in the name of goodness, they cause most of the suffering in the world. They're the judges, the meddlers. And, son, never trust a man who drinks but refuses to get drunk. They're usually afraid of something deep down inside, either that they're a coward or a fool or mean and violent. You can't trust a man who's afraid of himself. But sometimes, son, you can trust a man who occasionally kneels before a toilet. The chances are that he is learning something about humility and his natural human foolishness, about how to survive himself. It's damned hard for a man to take himself too seriously when he's heaving his guts into a dirty toilet bowl.

There's a man goin' 'round, takin' names
And he decides who to free and who to blame
