We had a quiet one here. Went out for breakfast, then came home and took it easy for the day. Last week was K's birthday so after all that craziness it was nice to just relax. It's chilly for June, only 73F today (usually in the lower 80s or higher by now). So lots of time outdoors, enjoying the weather before the heat and humidity comes back!
I only celebrate one father, and that's our Father Lord Jesus Christ.

It's been several years since I buried my dad, but every father's day weekend reminds me of times my sisters and I would try to "surprise" him with a gift...or a pancake breakfast in bed. He'd either want to take us to a rose garden event (June is a big time for rose growers, apparently), ask us to putter in the garage changing the car's oil or spark plugs, or take our houseboat on an Ohio River excursion navigating locks and docks.
I wish I'd paid more attention back then, to all the things he wanted to teach and share with us. But we were young and stupid. I still miss my dad, after all these years, and hope he realized how important he was before he died.
Yeah, sometimes we forget how much Dads mean to us. My Dad has grown softer now; he was a bit strict and tough when we were younger. Probably due to working 6-7 days a week and also his upbringing as the only boy in a large family of girls, with a Marine for a dad. But now that he is older, and I am too, we have a lot of interesting conversations. And even though I'm past thirty, he still watches over me and my family. Hell, two weeks ago he came over right after he got off work to catch a rat snake in my backyard because I'm afraid of snakes, and I doubt my husband would have caught him. Dad is a Southern boy, and can catch a snake pretty easily, with no fear. I wish I had inherited that fearlessness.

Southern girls don't necessarily "inherit" male southern traits. Sometimes it's part of expected family culture....for the men to be protectors of wives/daughters. My son and I were talking about that the other day: girls being taught by their fathers how to use guns, but still calling them "Daddy". One of those southern paternal colloquialisms, I suppose.

Kids woke me up with cupcakes, interesting breakfast but I wasn't going to complain. Spent most of the day at the beach. Nice way to spend a fathers day

I wasn't offended in the slightest by your post. I assumed it was an attempt at humor. The subsequent posts, though, made it seem more like the whole point of that post was to troll GGT, that's all.
