    Default The revival of birtherism

Seeing the president of the US use his office to launder a QAnon (and Jacob Lohl) affiliated racist conspiracy theory about Kamala Harris makes me wonder why the US insists on being a trash nation. It will be interesting to see whether Republican bootlickers will be able to summon up enough courage and integrity to immediately repudiate this bullshit this time around, but the fact that it even needs to be repudiated—again!—is just really fucking sad.

Sorry to say, but this is like Lewk's redundant "crime trolling" threads.

Yeah, the US is fucked up. The world's richest nation is acting like a third world country. Democracy is on the line, American Exceptionalism is a myth, Trump is a clown, and the Republican Party is a joke.....it's all quite sad.

    So what's the solution?

I considered putting it in one of the other threads but I felt like the issue is sufficiently distinct and important to warrant a separate thread.

I understand how pulling out certain topics can be useful....and every thread you make is undoubtedly about very important issues....but it ends up sounding more like disjointed Twitter threads for Trump-bashing, or US-bashing. I'm the last person to criticize thread creation (everyone knows I suck at that), but I think the issues you really want to discuss are more comprehensive. Something gets lost by treating them as distinct or separate, or unique to the US.

Just because the US is the now the poster-child for fuckedupness doesn't get us any closer to solving the problems that every nation and society faces. Calling us out for the duplicity, ineptitude, corruption, cronyism and discrimination that's been entrenched in our power structure for decades generations only makes us more like other nations; not special, and certainly not a leader for democracy on the world stage.
