My first simulated impact was a direct hit by a 10 mile iron asteroid. I dropped it 2k miles away (California from where I'm at) and the fireball was hot enough at my position to set my clothes, my house and the local woods on fire. Then a couple hours later came a 1,300 mile/hr wind that blew the fires out. I don't expect I'd survive that.

For a more man made disaster, CarlosLabs recently updated this Ground Zero Google Maps mashup, I remember the forums played around with the original version a little last year.

Well, doom religions aside, I do like EoW scenarios, stories, etc. Its fun stuff. And a lot of folks think so - consider the doom story industry. . . . .

Not just 2012, dude. There's a gazillion stories from as far back as humans were human I'm sure ( no, I don't have a source for that....)
Just off the top of my head, War of the Worlds, When Worlds Collide, Dawn of the Dead + remake, Day of the Dead, Land of the Dead, 12 Monkies, The Stand, TErminator 1-4, Reign of Fire, 28 Days Later, 28 Weeks Later, The Day After, Day of the Triffids, The Day After Tomorrow, Independance Day, Deep Impact, and that's just film - and not particularly complete. Don't forget Revelation either....
