    Default Conservatism

Wyoming House Bill 74 failed to pass. Wyoming also recently saw conservative women legislators telling the government to butt out of personal medical decisions (regarding abortion restrictions).

In a predominately conservative state, with more Republican legislators than Democrats! The Wild West!

Now, if a conservative state like Wyoming can do this.....what the hell is up with other state or national RNC / GOP Conservatives trying to do just the opposite? Why do they attach socially Conservative language onto fiscally conservative bills?

If it's a political maneuver to appeal to the extreme right, the religious right, or the "Moral Majority", maybe they should fire their advisors? Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, Newt Gingrich, Mike Huckabee and Sarah Palin may have some media appeal for certain groups watching FoxNews, but other than that---they're bigots and xenophobes trying to redefine conservatism by appealing to emotions like fear.

Be afraid of anyone who's not white, straight, Christian or Republican! They are trying to take our country away!

    What's up with that?

Wow! Shockingly enough, the Senator from my county actually voted against this bill! Since we are such a low population, we share a Senator with another county that is more conservative then ours is!

When this was reported in the CST, the comments section was rather hilarious to read. (If I could find a link, I'd let you see them. ) The majority of the comments were along the lines of, "Don't our elected officials have more important things to worry about? Why are they so concerned about what happens in someone's bedroom?"

This is the second time Wyoming has tried to pass a bill along these lines. Lucky for us, there are enough elected officials with brains that this hasn't gotten passed.

House conference committee chairwoman Rep. Amy Edmonds (R-HD12, Cheyenne) said she would vote for the bill because doing so would “speak the will of the people.” Supporters have argued for years that the majority of Wyoming residents oppose same-sex marriages. A proposal to put a constitutional amendment barring same-sex marriages and civil unions on the 2012 election ballot failed this session.
That is a line of bullshit! If this was put on the general election ballot, enough in the state would vote against it to kill the amendment! A great many people I have talked to, some of which are conservative/christian people, think this is just a waste of time, money, and energy. What happens in the bedroom should just stay there.

Do I think that gays/lesbians should have the same legal rights and also have to follow the same laws like divorce before remarrying? Of course. Should the state...ANY state...have to acknowledge marriages performed legally in another state? Hell yes! Do most states have bigger problems to be discussed in their legislatures, especially now with the economy, ect.? Hell yes. Worry about balancing the budget before worrying about the bedroom!

You might think GGT is getting the wrong idea about how the idiots in Cheyenne think...but I can assure you that a great many of them really do feel that way. Minorities of any kind, race, gender, or sexual persuasion, are kind of shoved out of the way here. Our legislators seem to think that, if they can shut up those who aren't just like them, then they don't exist. Sure, we are the Equality State, but that has been bogus since the day women were given the right to vote. The only reason that happened was so we would have a large enough population to become a state. Otherwise, the men who were in charge of our laws, would have never allowed women to be anything but second class citizens.

Quite a number of years ago, I went to Cheyenne for public input on a bill. While I was sitting there, one of the smartest people I know stood, was acknowledged to speak, and said what her opinion was. She was actually told, "Little lady, don't worry your head about it. Let the men speak since they know what they are talking about!" Admittedly, that was many years ago, and some things have changed in that time, but women are still considered as not quite as "good" as men.

If 1 bigot felt that way about (approximately) 1/2 of the state's population, what in the hell would that man have thought about homosexuals? If anything, they would have been considered (in his opinion) lower than those "damned Indians"!

Err, didn't Wyoming enact women's suffrage way before it was enacted at the federal level, and despite a threat from the federal Congress not to let Wyoming into the union if it didn't repeal women's voting rights?

Because it really is the wild west, comparatively speaking. More emphasis on individual freedoms, including their right to treat you like crap for excersizing your rights.
