Gotta say, as much as these guys are retards and deserve to be facing some of the consequences of their actions, the American criminal court system makes all those Axis-of-evil style tyrannies out there look downright just and merciful in comparison. Even the Soviet Union started you out with a few years in a Siberian gulag to convince you to "behave." But in America, hacking a few computers and vandalizing webpages to make a misguided political point, is as bad as 5 counts of capital murder.

No one ever gets the maximum sentences. They're there to coerce people to enter a plea bargain. I doubt he gets 10 years.

People who lose at trial do. Which probably explains why 99+% of people charged with federal felonies take a plea at some point in the proceedings.

When was the last "hacktivist" sentenced to 124 years in jail? And again he probably won't get that much of a sentence but it would send a powerful message.And it's clearly working great. Cyber crime costs billions in lost productivity. Deterrence is an important element of our judicial system.
