    Default Dear fuckers,

It's that time again! The forum is shit.

And I can't even joke about how it's shit in a different way than before! My complaint will be nigh-identical to the ones I've had previously!

In a recent conversation with some regulars, they clearly stated they felt no longer like posting in the Serious Forum (or even in general!) because we have a small bunch of stupid, aggressive shits that shit all over everything. It's fucking poop central in there, no joke. Like, from a butt.

I honestly do not know how that issue can be addressed. I've personally put the crazies and the jack-asses on ignore (which makes for funny looking threads sometimes), but ignore lists are for the weak. Ignore lists do not remove the atmosphere of shit-flinging.

I know the response I've gotten before mostly amounts to "suck it up, you fucking girl", and that's fine in its way, I'm a brutal jack-ass too and like saying things as they are. I have absolutely no respect for idiots. Conversely, this means being able to admit wrong-thinking, something we don't really see in the community. I don't know if I'm nearly as able to do it here as I am professionally, where it is simply required, and therefore ignored.

But I'm nearing the fucking 30 mark here. I am too old and too fucking tired for people who want to play games. If you want to play games, say so, start threads for that purpose. But if you're my age or fucking older, and can't manage being intellectually honest, seriously? Go fuck yourself. Get the fuck off my forum.

I would offer to leave the forum myself, if the majority (or the vocal majority, at any rate) said they prefer the games, but that would be a lie. Like Ghost Enigma elucidated earlier, there's too much history and too much at stake here to leave.

Summa summarum: I don't expect anything to change. I except to see absolutely retarded responses to this. I do not think many of our fellow travelers will ever post again. That's a crying shame, and I earnestly mean that. So I'll keep shouting into the wind about this every now and then, if for nothing else then for the sake of the feelings of those fellow travelers. You can call me what you like over it, I'm a big girl.
In the future, the Berlin wall will be a mile high, and made of steel. You too will be made to crawl, to lick children's blood from jackboots. There will be no creativity, only productivity. Instead of love there will be fear and distrust, instead of surrender there will be submission. Contact will be replaced with isolation, and joy with shame. Hope will cease to exist as a concept. The Earth will be covered with steel and concrete. There will be an electronic policeman in every head. Your children will be born in chains, live only to serve, and die in anguish and ignorance.
The universe we observe has precisely the properties we should expect if there is, at bottom, no design, no purpose, no evil, no good, nothing but blind, pitiless indifference.

To be honest, I hardly post anymore, because I mostly think "Why Bother?". I don't get the feeling most, if any, people properly read you and try to understand your point, and it's almost a lucky break if someone actually gives a proper reply. Too often it seems posts making a good point are ignored, because it's easier to fight off stupid posts and no one likes being wrong, or completely misunderstood or misrepresented. So basically, I can't be arsed to post anymore. Any fun I get from participating in a debate and sharing my opinion and learning from other people's opinion is offset by the tone and lack of honest debate.
Keep on keepin' the beat alive!

Debate and Discussion is the serious forum. There is no secret debate forum. At best, we can probably offer to vet posts before they're made public, or just lock certain people out if they misbehave. I'd have to check with Wraith if we have that capability though. Asking people to moderate themselves is about as realistic as asking a dog not to eat a steak left out on the floor. It lasts for a little while, but eventually it stops working, and then theres shit everywhere.

Nessus isn't the only one to hint at this 4th forum, rand has talked about it when he mentioned a thread about his personal life/job was in there I figured thats where the front page articles started out at before being moved.

My expectations of retardation have been met and then some! The Serious Forum is the debate one! A secret Serious forum is the dumbest thing! Holy shit.

There are additional forums which are not visible to all members. One is for Articles, the writing and editing of such, and the other is for discussion of moderation and administration of the forums. The Article forum is for anyone who wants to write an article, or wants to assist with editing them, and of course the mod/admin one is only open to mods and admins.

There is no secret serious forum. There is also no suggestion for a secret serious forum. And my solutions wasn't to keep it secret, just posting to it would be more privileged and stringent than posting here. Although honestly any method we employ is either going to hurt egos/feelings, stifle debate, or what have you, so the major solution would be self moderation which we've all seemed to frankly demonstrate we are not always capable of.

The article one was what I was referring to. Since I can't view it, I assumed it may have been what Ness was talking about since D&D has hardly been serious.

An article, once edited, and approved, ends up in Debate and Discussion.

Yes the article shows the moved icon to suggest as much. Since Rand has used it for personal matters, and there hasn't a new front page in months, I have no idea how strict it is or what the approval process is.

If ever you think the quality of posters here is too low, try posting on other forums

So hopefully you won't find it too offensive or retarded to point out that your attitude is part of the problem, then.

Complaining about an atmosphere of shit-flinging while tossing out turds and walking away is not exactly productive behavior.

Yeah, nothing like a romp around the internet to demonstrate that there's no intelligent life in the universe, that's for sure.

Dreadnaught's sad face in the Serious Forum raises a depressing point. Has it gotten to the stage where we're able to trivialize too much of the user base? In my opening here I admitted to having several people on ignore, what does that tell us?

It tells us that Cain is correct on this one: that you have several people on ignore in a small community just means you're more delicate and less reasonable than you pretend to be. In other words, most people here aren't the problem. You're the problem.

What's wrong with having people on ignore? There are several people here who never once posted anything worth reading. It's not that they say offensive things; it's that they're incapable of intelligent thought.

Is anyone here really a victim, Khend? Don't you feel that's kind of an absurd position to take?

By that yardstick, Dread's position is equally absurd. Which was my whole point, i.e.: Putting the blame entirely on one side only.

Just to be clear, I said Nessie's attitude is part of the problem.

Most of the complaint has merit, even if the source makes it a bit easy to dismiss out-of-hand, there's not much that can be done about it, and it's kinda laughable to claim that it's ever been any other way.

Not surprising you'd be the one to say something like that, but fact is, the unpleasant truths are the most important kind, and the ones the internet reveal about people are valuable to learn.

That said what I meant was that most of us can probably find more productive and gratifying things to do on our free time if we really have to. See Dread's travels through the USSR and Lor's muscle-quest

I didn't really want to get involved here but apparently I have to. Even if Loki beat me to the punch. The ignore function is there for a reason and it exercises a useful function. Did not we all BEG Kane and Tear to make use of it? There is absolutely nothing wrong with taking preventative action to reduce the likelihood of unproductive bitchiness between posters. It in no way keeps you from looking in at a blocked post and making a reply if you think the material might actually be worth it. But this is a discussion forum, not every post can or should be a major expounding of a critical idea and it is irrational to assume or passively demand that every post be both read and be worth the reading. Excessive filtering may be bad but it is beneficial to the forum as a whole if exercised in moderation. The moderators of course pose a semi-exception to that but you guys knew what you were signing up for.
Last night as I lay in bed, looking up at the stars, I thought, “Where the hell is my ceiling?"
