    Default Recover overwritten SD card data?

    Anyone know of a way to recover overwritten SD card data? I copied files from my video camera to the Laptop but it only copied the photos and not the videos, formatted and started taking more videos before I realised what had happened.

    Downloaded Photorec which recovered half the videos but not any over-written. Is it possible to download anything to recover the data or is it gone for good?

    Unfortunately the one video I'd so far taken which was the most sentimental to me is lost. I took a video of my grandparents (now in their 80s) opening their Christmas presents, we'd got it perfect and I'd never seen them so happy. A great memory but was delighted to have got that on video, most of the other videos were just messing around with my new toy but I really want to get that one back and it was one of the first taken so was overwritten.

    With my understanding of the underlying technology, your data is well and truly gone. I'm not an expert though.

    The best you can say about the recovery of overwritten data is that it may not actually be physically impossible, but to my knowladge no one has every actually achieved such a feet. Your data is gone, sorry.

    Yeah, what Steely said. Solid state memory does load balancing in order to use all memory cells about equally. Which means that the logical Data Block 1 is not actually the physical Data Block 1 (unlike with, say, hard discs).

    However, this load balancing is not tracked beyond which cell has been used how often. You cannot tell the order in which they have been written to after the balancing act, so, no, the data is gone.
