Shadow of Mordor

Just got this today and have to say I very highly recommend it so far. At least to anyone who enjoys the Batman Arkham series of games.

This is a LOTR game set in the period between The Hobbit and LOTR and the action system is almost identical to the Arkham system. Both in fighting style and combo style, to also similarities between Batman's Detective Mode and Mordor's wraith mode. Given that the Arkham games are some of the best in recent years IMO adapting this works really well.

Also of interest is the Nemesis mode they've come up with. Without giving away the plot you can't really die, so I was killed by an Uruk which meant it became promoted to being a stronger Captain in Sauron's Army that I can come across again later on.

I'm still early in it but would recommend to anyone who enjoys the Arkham games and Lord of the Rings.

Looks good but have a feeling it may be a poor port to PC.

The few vids etc of this I've seen of this so far seems to show that it is geared toward console controllers. In my experience such games make the mouse/keyboard PC experience fiddly and frustrating to play.

Finished it yesterday.
I think this has been my favorite game on this gen so far.
Story's decent, combat is pretty much exactly like Arkham's, Nemesis system is fantastic.
Only complaint, it can get rather easy as you gain powers, and Nemesis is weirdly more fun when you die a lot.
Even then, you can still advance time to get the same effect.

Strange how hype about the next big thing went to Destiny, Watch Dogs, but the game that actually delivered something new and refreshing was this one.

Gonna do another run with no upgrades/runes, no certain OP abilities, and combat indicators off.
Should be a lot harder, make Nemesis shine more.

Console.

My understanding is that the PC version is quite good.
I read it was created for PC first, and the port was actually to the consoles.
Don't know if that's true.

EDIT: Total Biscuit did a video already for this game, always spends the first part talking about the PC technical aspects.

The nemesis system is downright evil.

Seriously.

I now have one guy who absolutely insists on surrounding himself with orks in a stronghold, has next to no serious weaknesses (He's fearful of Graugs, yeah, good one! And vulnerable to combat finishers and that's it), does downright malicious damage with his bow and shows his contempt by not killing me.

Gah.
