    Default FIFA arrest and raids

Fifa officials corrupted football - US prosecutors
US prosecutors have accused several officials from football's governing body Fifa of racketeering, fraud and money laundering involving tens of millions of dollars over 24 years.

So there are two independent investigations going on (coincidence both went public at the same morning in the same city) against the FIFA. One by US and one by Swiss investigators.

Well, what can I say? ...Finally.

I have a bad feeling nothing will come of it. But at least someone is trying.

Well if you mean that Blatter will stay you are probably right. It might have some influence on the political side.

It's all a conspiracy by the enemies of FIFA, trying to bring down glorious leader for life Blatter.

    Was going to post this.

Let out a big cheer on the train home from work today when I read the article in the evening paper.

About fucking time, and I hope those found guilty are put away for years upon years.

And Blatter can't stay. His evil little empire is crumbling.

FIFA being corrupt is the least shocking news in a long time. There was never a justifiable logic as to why Qatar could let alone should host a summer tournament as was initially awarded. Clearly a corrupt decision and just the latest in a very long line of corruption scandals.

If Blatter stays it will be a disgrace. So he probably will.

Well, all the slave labor probably makes it cheaper. So there's that.

This thread now 37% funnier in hindsight.

I also broke the phone hacking story a year early, on page two.

Stupid search. I explicitly searched for both soccer and FIFA and got nothing.

LOL its funny looking back and re-reading the "there's no corruption problem here" posts again.

Hazir acknowledged there was corruption. He took it as just something to be expected. What he claimed objection to was the idea that UK entities highlighting or acting against FIFA corruption factored into any FIFA decisions.

What I heard from that article was "Yeah, we bribed the shit out of Fifa to get what we wanted."

BTW, we had it lately about famous Josephs, Blatter is also one. And Ackermann is also one. But none of them call themselves Joseph.

Looks like today's vote will go ahead, despite numerous calls to delay it until the outcome of the corruption investigation is known.

And Blatter is the clear favourite, with Jordan's Prince Ali bin al-Hussein the only other candidate.

UEFA have said they will boycott the vote if it goes ahead today, but this morning's reports are not repeating that claim. Europe's 53 football associations will certainly vote for al-Hussein if indeed they do vote.
But then, just about all of Africa's 50-odd votes will go for Blatter, as will much of Asia and Latin America's.

    However,
The BBC has learned that Uefa could call for an extraordinary general meeting of Fifa's Congress if Mr Blatter wins on Friday.
If 20% of members agree with the motion, the meeting would have to be held within three months - and a motion of no confidence would almost certainly be put forward.

On a more serious note, even if magically Blatter lost, is that guy any better? Over here the news mostly covered Van Praag obviously, but even then the argument seemed to be mostly "at least he's not Blatter"..

Speculation is that there is indeed a smoking gun.

Qatar 2022 to go down next please.

Probably too late to reorganise Russia 2018 somewhere else.

Now does seem like a good time to retire to a country without an extradition treaty.

Blatter? No need to go anywhere, he is Swiss citizen.
