The move by Apple is unjust, say the developers of the game Ultimate General: Gettysburg. Apple told the developers at Game-Labs that the game could be reinstated if the Confederate flag were removed. The game maker won't do it, the company said on its blog.

Just when you thought you heard it all. Google, Ebay, Amazon, Apple. All worms.

Its not unique to Apple. Paradox won't use the swastika as the Nazi's flag for the Hearts of Iron series because it is against German laws. Despite it being contemporary era game so it would be accurate, not racist.

Well, that's totally different.

1) The swastika is still a widespread symbol of anti-semitism. It is not isolated to some tiny minority. The Confederate flag was never a symbol of slavery in and of itself during its time, and neither is it now.

2) Germany has laws against Nazi symbolism and denying the Holocaust. (and properly so, may I add...) There aren't such laws against the Confederate flag.

3) Apple is abusing its position in an oligopoly to pander to the petty feelings of its CEO.

1) The Confederate Flags are a symbol of slavery and white supremacism now and then. That is exactly what the rebellion was over and it is still used like the Swastika by white supremacist skinheads.

2) This is why many nations release a tweaked version for the German market, Paradox won't use accurate contemporary flags in ANY market not just Germany. If I buy as a Brit, from a British store or British downloads through the British version of Steam there is no swastika despite it being entirely legal.

3) Apple is responding to public demand not just its CEO, as a private company is entitled to do. I disagree with it, but its paranoia to suggest only Apple's CEO is on that side of the fence.

I do not think Apple is entitled to do this, as a member of an oligopoly.. or even a duopoly... in the market.
