Racial massacres in the US—what are children taught?

I was surprised to learn there were around two dozen documented massacres of black people in the US:

I was just wondering, how much of this history is taught in US schools? I would've expected the Tulsa massacre, at least, to be taught in all history classes, but I've spoken with many Americans who are quite confident they weren't taught about it in school. Shouldn't children be told of these events? Why does this blind spot exist?

I don't think you realize how poor the quality of American education is. It's not really taught (it probably is in a college history class), but a lot of things aren't taught. It should definitely be taught in Oklahoma, but the people in charge aren't exactly sorry for what their ancestors did a century ago.

In K-12? Basically none of it. You'll get material on the rise of the KKK and lynchings but extended racial massacres? Not a word.

It wasn't taught in my schools, and it wasn't part of my millennial kids' public education, either!

It's embarrassing to admit the first I'd heard of the Tulsa Massacre was from the movie "Watchmen" last year...and wasn't sure how much was dramatic license or real history until I did some research.
