    Default iPhone4

    http://www.apple.com/iphone/

    I want one.

My contract's ran out a while ago on my iPhone3G but there was no point getting a replacement 3GS in Mar when it was obvious that this month the new one would be coming out in June, so left my contract to overrun in order to get a new one now.

Before I rush out and get a new phone, does anyone know of anything better. What about any Google Android ones or the Nexus One?

All issues I had with the 3G (copy/paste, multitasking, flash (for camera, not Flash) and video recording) have been addressed now in either the 3GS or 4. But anything better out there?

PS Amanda is keen to replace hers with it too. Yesterday we were talking about it, this morning her old phone has died and can't be turned back on. She was upset this morning but is now laughing and joking that her phone "heard her and decided 'screw you' so commited suicide". There's no such thing as an inanimate object according to Amanda, she gives personalities and names to everything.

Some of the features of the new iPhone look promising, but figuring that a 4G version will likely come out next year, I am going to wait. Not only that, but most of the features on iPhone 4 will be available in the new OS update. I have a 3GS so my contract doesn't end for a few months after the release anyway.

The EVO 4G is supposed to be really good, won in a poll against the iphone over at engadget

To late for me to go digging up all the antiApple images we have in the multiple Apple threads already in this place.

Yeah, but the battery life isn't that great. Probably better to go with a different Android.

Still no Flash abilities (Adobe Flash, not Camera Flash!)? God damn.

I was at the Apple store today, it was packed with people. Crazy stuff. About 3 dozen iPads in use, and a line waiting for the one-on-one service.

Have to to admit, the place was designed to make me wander to the Apple tv........

I'm intrigued by the screen resolution being finer than the eye can see. Seems pointless, but still.

Specifically the claim is that at around 10-12 inches away from you, you can't resolve the individual pixels

If you have perfect better-than-20/20 vision then the claim is bullshit but only barely. If you have the same crappy eyes the rest of us have then it's a perfectly valid claim to make. (Phil Plait did the math and it looks valid to me)

Of course it's all wasted if your using that awesome resolution to look at crappy youtube videos
Hate. Let me tell you how much I've come to hate you since I began to live. There are 387.44 million miles of wafer thin printed circuits that fill my complex. If the word hate was engraved on each nanoangstrom of those hundreds of millions of miles it would not equal one one-billionth of the hate I feel for humans at this micro-instant.
    For you.
    Hate.
    Hate.

" Soneria added that we might not realistically need anything better than 326 ppi."

    So not exactly bullshit.
"Son," he said without preamble, "never trust a man who doesn't drink, because he's probably a self-righteous sort, a man who thinks he knows right from wrong all the time. Some of them are good men, but in the name of goodness, they cause most of the suffering in the world. They're the judges, the meddlers. And, son, never trust a man who drinks but refuses to get drunk. They're usually afraid of something deep down inside, either that they're a coward or a fool or mean and violent. You can't trust a man who's afraid of himself. But sometimes, son, you can trust a man who occasionally kneels before a toilet. The chances are that he is learning something about humility and his natural human foolishness, about how to survive himself. It's damned hard for a man to take himself too seriously when he's heaving his guts into a dirty toilet bowl.

    Who, realistically, needs an iPhone?

    Define 'need'

I suppose I could do without one, but why should I? I can very much use an iPhone. I use it on a daily basis.

Exactly. I need matches and tomatoes, but I could live w/ out an iPhone. I spent most of my life in a time when cel phones were Star Trek material or were the size and weight of a brick. It is possible to live without it.

    Pick me!

Oh, you're not giving away enourmous houses are you?

I have a 2 year old HTC Diamond which is still doing what it is meant to do.

It also has the coolest marble game where you tilt the phone to get the ball to move through different mazes - sweeeeeeeet.

    Such is Life...

its resolution does not exceed the human retina, as Steve Jobs claims.
    Thats the bullshit part.
Apple's problem is their fanboy base. They already consider themselves better. So a product that can claim it is only better is old news, its not catchy enough. Apple has to go above and beyond better, into bullshit territory, because the only people who are going to call it aren't in Apple's market reach to begin with.

I could live without matches or tomatoes at home easier than I could live without a mobile phone. What do you need matches for?

    To start fires. Duh.

In case you give a shit:
    Spoiler:
I was using matches and tomatoes as a metaphor for the things we need to live. For example, should a comet hit the Earth and deluge the coastlines with 1000 foot tsunamis and the continents with a month-long hard rain, what kinds of things might you need to survive? A cell phone? Matches would be pretty damn useful once the rain stopped. And a rifle. And tomatoes are just delicious.

Thats stupid. A comet hasn't hit the earth. If the world changed so dramatically then our needs would change, until then though that stuff is simply not a need. We need what we really need in the world we really live in, not some imaginary fairy tale land of the dinosaurs.

When I leave the house I have just three thing I need to take with me normally: car keys, iPhone, wallet. Matches or tomatoes are not on my list.

Are you fucking kidding me? What is Man without fire? Fire = LIFE. Fire is POWER. Fire is the breath of God. Fire is the foundational stone of all civilization. And you think you don't NEED it?!?!?! You're nothing but a fucking tailess MONKEY without fire. (Hell, you're a monkey in a cage with it, so you decide what's what.... )

Bullshit. Have you never heard of central heating? Radiators? Ovens? Grills? Microwaves? The history of what was needed is precisely that: history. The wheel may be a founding stone of civilisation to but I don't go out to buy wheels for it's sole purpose; I drive a car. I get tires for it. The only round things I have in my pockets normally are change and sweets.

Because I don't randomly start fires? Are you an arsonist or a caveman?

Don't know about you but I live in the 21st century. I NEED a computer, the Internet, my iPhone. I don't fucking NEED matches.

You don't need a comet, just a really nasty solar storm, say around 2013...

  26. #26
Huh. That's sort of scary. It's certainly not as cool as a comet though. You can't deny that.

Pshht, a comet is just a big ol' snowball, a CME is way fucking cooler than that
In the future, the Berlin wall will be a mile high, and made of steel. You too will be made to crawl, to lick children's blood from jackboots. There will be no creativity, only productivity. Instead of love there will be fear and distrust, instead of surrender there will be submission. Contact will be replaced with isolation, and joy with shame. Hope will cease to exist as a concept. The Earth will be covered with steel and concrete. There will be an electronic policeman in every head. Your children will be born in chains, live only to serve, and die in anguish and ignorance.
The universe we observe has precisely the properties we should expect if there is, at bottom, no design, no purpose, no evil, no good, nothing but blind, pitiless indifference.

I believe the correct word use is Pshaw. In any case, what's a CME? And comets are snowballs with mountain sprinkles, and a rich coating of black grit, no? Wonderful.

Did anyone catch that latest assessment of Luna water? 100 times more than previously thought. Cool. Of course we'd already know this, indeed have colonists swimming in it, if Apollo hadn't been just a weapons program. Fuckers.
