If you lost your voting location form in NY, it was a nightmare figuring out how/where to vote. Here, I can go online, and get my polling station address and all the candidates that will be on my ballot by typing in my name and date of birth.

You could either do something complex like "writing your polling station info down" or go to a magical place called a library and use their electricity/computers.

I don't see a big problem with my county. We had early voting a full week from 7-7. Of course no one wanted to show up till the last day of it. Which is why its not 2 weeks like it was was last time (but the daily hours were extended). So the news jumps on that with stories of huge lines and long waits. Fucking dumbasses deserve it. Early voting ended Sat and I'm still getting old people calling me wanting to know when the library is open so they can go vote
Even with early voting over, our election offices are still taking over the counter vote by mail ballots all day today.
There is no reason that someone should not have been able to vote already. At least in my county. I know some of the other counties are being bigger dicks about it. One of our neighboring counties only had 3 early voting locations, and they have a larger population than we do.

We don't have early voting in PA. But even after losing new photo ID challenges in court, our Dept. of State is still running the same tv adverts about voter photo ID. They just inserted a phrase "not required" in the ads.
One big problem with early voting is that it's not "timed" well after national conventions and televised debates. Or vice versa.
Best time to do a warrant round up is on election day.
I feel sad for the state of our democracy if people are going to decide who to vote for on the basis of some sound bites.

It is funny because the very same people who answered questions in the first portion of the video would be mortified at the 2nd part of the video when they hear their own comments viewed as 'ignorant' 'racist' 'stupid.'
The voter ID thing is so absurd. You can't buy alcohol, cigarettes, board a plane, pick up prescriptions, purchase certain types of OTC drugs, buy violent video games and a host of other things without one. The fact that liberals are so upset about this is concerning. I'd be more than happy with a national ID system or a state ID system where you don't have to pay for one. Ensuring the vote is accurate is important. We've seen cases where dead people have voted. (Absentee ballot and the person already croaked for example). Proving you are who you say you are when you go to cast a vote isn't an unreasonable request.
You know, I'm pretty sure you weren't for a national ID when Republicans were calling it a form of tyranny a decade ago.

20 years ago sure, I can buy that. It's not really the same landscape then as now though is it? And it's not just a matter of a Republican being president now, or ten years ago. Honestly, I expect there was a major change in the aftermath of 9/11. Nothing like "national security threat" to get the law-and-order types to start looking more favorably at increased documentation (except, for various subgroups, on their guns).

not sure I see how it would be particularly difficult to be all law-and-order and obsessed with national security while opposing national ID cards. Greater discretion to police, profiling, surveillance, restricted immigration, crackdown on "illegals", more guns for civilians etc can all seem to accomplish the same things as a national ID card--and more. The innocent have nothing to fear.

It's reasonable to view it as a form of "tyranny" or at least overreach and meddling if it's federally mandated. I can see moderate libertarians compromising on this matter to some extent.

I don't see the issue with a national ID card - we already have state ones. Essentially it would be: have state ID? Great use it, its valid. Alternatively you can request a national ID that works in any state, the national ID will be free and allows you to vote if you don't have a state license. There shouldn't be any big brother concerns about this since it doesn't create an additional layer by any means.
It can easily be challenged in the basis of costs as well as due to being (most likely) a logistic nightmare.
