Agreed, I don't think it's deliberate. But then again the financial markets were closed, and "closing date" of these things is usually somewhat flexible so arguably it could have waited just a bit.

Anyhoo, I would LOVE some more SW movies, the books show a great galaxy and stories to explore.

Star Wars episodes IV, V, and VI were always a trilogy, so V and VI weren't sequels. The entire story had been written before any of the movies were made.

There's evidence against this, btw. For example, I've read the original Star Wars film was re-named Episode 4: A New Hope after the first release -- and it was added to the opening story crawl. It's hard to verify though b/c Lucas has either destroyed or refuses to release the original theatrical Star Wars film, before his many generations of revisions.

That would be like implying The Two Towers and The Return of the King were sequels to The Fellowship of the Ring, when of course as we know Tolkien wrote it as a single story, divided into three episodes.

I read he originally wanted to publish a single book but the original publisher insisted he cut it into three.

I'd add Alien and Aliens to that.

These two films are different sub-genres. Alien was a solid SF Horror film while Aliens was a SF Action/ Thriller, each a superb example of each. If you liked Aliens better, as I did, you probably prefer the genre more than anything else.

Cars was indeed entirely Pixar, and is the only disappointment (bar sequels/prequels) to have emerged from the minds of the Pixar team's normal story-telling brilliance. Commercially successful, but critically panned. It wasn't an enjoyable movie.

I hated Cars. And Bug's Life wasn't that great either, though I didn't dislike it. ("I'll have the Poo Poo platter." )

The moment from The Incredibles when Elastigirl is closing in on the evil genius's island in the private jet, with the missile closing in on her, and her mayday mayday call "there are children on this aircraft" was genuinely frightening. Edge of the seat.

I've always felt the same. I don't know if it's the scene itself, the excellance of voice acting or what, but that scene was fantastic.


All in all I think this Star Wars/ Disney deal is an opportunity to keep Lucas from putting out another piece of shit. He got way too convinced of his own brilliance after Star Wars became the first-ever mega-hit. Starting with Empire Strikes Back (tbh, the idea that Vader was twin Luke and Leia's father was very fucking stupid and really limited and dumbed down the rest of the films), every film after, and all the revisions he's made over the decades, he needed someone with authority who could tell him "no, that's idiotic."

I loved that trilogy, they added so many great characters to the universe.
Thrawn is my fave, but Talon Karrde, Mara Jade, the Noghri, Capt. Palleon, etc..
