There was a NY Times piece about how GOP apparatchiks really hate Christy now over how he handled Sandy (and Obama). Jindal is one of the leaders of the war against science. Not sure if I'd want a Senator to become president given how the last one turned out.

Depends on the situation. Get into a heated argument about something with your buddy and you insult him and he punches you, maybe you don't want to have charges filed. Why would the police bother if everything is patched up and no one wants to see a prosecution?
In college. Bush became intoxicated and drove a vehicle. He could of potentially KILLED people. And yet your hostility to certain religious (however absurd it maybe) beliefs is making you think this is far worse than it is.
