Thread: XCom Enemy Unknown

I like to dress my guys up in Star Trek colors..something like 30-ish red-shirts on the memorial wall.
    Yah, I'm bad.

Only got 4 satellites up, 5 countries left the council, my only medic got dead last mission..

But I captured a Berserker that one time!

First time when I was blundering around I also only had 9 countries at the end of it, and managed fine. So as long as you got America, Russia and a couple of $100 countries, you'll manage.

Having mixed feelings about the game. The concept clearly works, but there seems to be a lot of areas where you can almost see they slapped a "finished" sticker over the holes in the work in progress. I'll leave it dormant for a while, and come back to it after a couple of patches, if they'll release them.

One thing that is not easily fixable is the small maps. At Classic it's far too crowded. Try to flank with an assault, trigger a new batch of aliens. So you'll have to pull back into known unoccupied territory to be able to make use of all them shiny perks everyone has. Since the perks with # aliens visible maxes out usually at 4 aliens. There have been many abduction missions in a street with cars + store/other type of building where my guys only manage to reach the walls of the building (and in some cases not even that) because they're flooded with aliens. Sure, it's nice once in a while but In have had this missions in a row.
I could have had class. I could have been a contender.
I could have been somebody. Instead of a bum
    Which is what I am

    I aim at the stars
    But sometimes I hit London

That's a bit of a bastard. Just takes time though, and missions are always a good way to earn cash.

    Yeh mixed feelings too.

    - Far too few map variants. All are too samey. Original XCOM had far more variants, more than 15 years ago.
    - It's too quick. Stuff should take much longer to research. There should be many more interceptions of UFOs and subsequent missions before the 'Objective' Missions come around, and there should be much more time between them. I couldn't believe how quickly The Alien Base Assault mission came up.
    - You can't build more than one base.
    - Not nearly enough 'individualism' to distinguish the troops, as I referred to before
    - The Line of Sight AI is shit. Alien behind a huge solid wall, and I get a 45% chance to hit. Alien behind a tiny tree stump which barely covers one leg, and from the same angle and distance and with same trooper I get an 18% chance to hit.

There are nice touches, and it's just about keeping me going, but have shelved it for a bit and gone back to GW2.

    My take

-Game length was about right. Any longer and the limited mission variety would have been annoying.
-Lack of variety in the maps isn't that big of a deal since you can beat the game in 20ish (or less) hours. Things changed up quite a bit with new tech and new alien types.
-Love the game inside of a game playstyle.
-Tactically the game could use a better Alien AI... maybe it has it on harder difficulties but I've heard they just cheat instead. For example... the aliens know your coming. Maybe it takes them awhile to get their shit together, makes sense but eventually wouldn't they come looking for you? Right now you can spend all the time you want slowly creeping forward. Make some time based consequences, maybe instead of one group - after 3 turns the group behind the wall has flanked you. Now its for real.
-Multi-player has some great promise but I'm getting people disconnected way too often
-All in all game was a fantastic buy for the entertainment level I got for it. At the cost of about 2 movies I enjoyed it a great deal more and for longer.

Only the base game, not the expansion unfortunately.

    The expansion is fun, though.
When the stars threw down their spears

Did he smile his work to see?
Did he who made the lamb make thee?

Good, good. I'm going to wait until it goes on sale.

Yep have been playing the expansion for the last few days while Rebirth gets patched up and sorted out. It's good.
